Angry Nissan Navara Ran Up The Back Of My Mint Vl!

here's the result of a nissan navara running up the back of a vl at about 40kph.it happened last friday coming back from a fun day at tafe.just near the gabba,i was following an old sh**box vn that had roof racks loaded up with cementing equipment.vn hit a bit of a bump in the road and a piece of metal piping bout 40 cm long and 20 cm in diameter came out heading straight for the car. i couldnt swerve left coz the curb was there and i couldnt swerve right coz a bus was there. so i just hit the anchors ,not a complete lockup just pulled her up pretty quick not comin to a complete stop. then i hear a screech of tires on tarmac with just enuff time to look in my rear view and brac 4 impending impact.

So there we have it been chasing up insurance qoutes. for any1 whos done it u'd realise what a pain in the a** it is to do.. gotta get the qoutes then rely on the company do put em thru and make a claim.. then iam sure suncorp are goin to look at and just write it off. and ill just end up getting market value for the car which is like 1800buxs

thing is this car is an imacculate example of the vl. i got it off the original owner who literally took it on 2 10 minute drives per week. with less than 86 000 original k's on the clock.it came with every single holden service report from new and is just like a brand new car. shes now up to 96 000k's.i payed $5250 for the car and probably spent another $2000 at least on all quality profesionally done upgrades ...so if they tell me its worth $1800...i'll tell em where to stick it .

so if any one out there has gone thru this hell of seeing there pride and joy smashed by some un observant f#*k wit and hav got sum advice on how i shud follow this up , id love to hear from you...

It does look clean mate! Can see by the cleanliness of the trim panels that she is looked after.

How the number plate didn’t get crushed is anyone’s guess I suppose. Is it just surface damage or does it go deeper?

Well whatever the insurance do, keep the car, someone will be glad to buy it and fix it up in their spare time, better than seeing it crushed. The damage doesn't look bad

Going through the same thing. Got to buy my wagon back for $427.00. haggle with the insurance company and dont accept the first offer - they upped my payout by 600.

best to try to insure it for agreed value if its much better than average if you can find an insurance co who will do it, you could ask a genuine broker to help

yes smash repairs are now so expensive that after almost any shunt, the VL will be written off

make sure the repair doesnt allow exhaust gas to be sucked back into the car

U can get it fix, but its going to be costly, then again depends on how much u love ur car..

ring around anyway mate, see who will charge what, even take a photo with u in person if u dont wanna make calls.

Yer it is repairable, saw a couple of panel beaters that said it can be done. coz it was hit by a 4by ,being a bit higher, its sorta flatened everything above the boot floor. the floor itself isnt damaged nor is the beaver panel under the bumper.all the fuel tank is untouched.the impact was actually not that bad,as i think most of the energy was absorbed by the softer sheet metal rather than the more rigid part of the car, sorta where the fuel tank is. just allso hoping it hasnt damaged anything else mechanically. i dont think it has .as the car seem to drive just as well as it did before the crash. Iv'e got 2 qoutes today both for about 4g worth of work.

Ive got it insured for agreed value at 3800. so iam really really hoping that they will see how clean the car is and repair it. iam not leting it go to the wreckers to get crushed. ive spent way too much time, money and effort just to let it go to waste like that.

what ever it takes she will roam the streets again...

allso thanks for all the response's everyone

    cheers goon..

ok today's progress finally got sum quotes outa the panel beaters.I got 3. 2 didnt even bother giving me a cost as they knew the insurance will just write it off. one of the qoutes however did. grand total comes to $4103.33. that price doesnt include the 2 rear gaurds or beaver panel. coz no one makes em new any more. so putting the claim thru tommorow, so i should hav a suncorp assesor come out and have a look at her. there probably going to offer me something stupid like 2grand for it. but iam goin to try get $5000 to cover the cost of repairs.

I dont like my chances but we'll hav to see how it turns out. so if anyone out there has some new old stock vl rear gaurds and beaver panel let me know..

anywho. i'll keep everyone posted on my progress... In the meaning time, for every one out there in vl land....watch out for vl killing navara's!!!!..

Hate mate, sucks when things like this happen. The benifit you have is the other driver has taken responsibility for it.

I hate someone run into my VL, at 60 (well, the speed limit was 60, but it was wet, doubt the guy even braked)
I was in the right lane, stopped behind a car turning off, and he was in the left lane, and just changed without looking. Damage was over 4000, but my 1/4s were dented aswell. They ended up replacing the whole panel where the lights go.

Hopefully the at fault person in your crash pays their excess alot sooner than the guy who hit me (2 months)

hey banks. nah mate i think its a bit beyond my "pack it with bog and sand to acheive desired shape approach"...wish that was a possibilty but yer i just dont have the skill. both rear panels and beaver panel really need to be unstiched and replacments welded in. btw does anyone know of reputeable panel beater in the brisbane area?

If worst comes to worst, ask for that much to be contributed towards repairs, and the rest you could chip in. Not sure if they will agree to it, or if you would want too.

yer mate trackin down all my own parts and i'll give bradys a call. i work down at archerfield so that'd be handy.reason it s goin to cost so much if it goes thru insurance is they have to give a garuntee on there work . which means they can only use genuine parts. for example in the qoute the tail lights were 160$ each and 300$ for a second hand boot lid.

However i will hopefully get the 3800 it is insured for and use that money to repair her.

    AND

I just picked up a 88 vl berlina (elite???) for $80!!!!!! all the rear section is good with very minmal rust under the seal. so iam goin to be using that as my donner car. it s got a heap of good parts in it. disc brake rear alot of calais parts on it. so iam pretty happy bout that. getin it towed here tomoro.so i'll post some pics up of it.

the same sort of thing happend to me but i did it, i reversed into someone in a **** mood that made it even ****ter, but the back of my vl went in similar to yours but not as bad. Took the tail lights out everything really breakable and smashed the hell out of it made it look good again. But then again yours is worse but i might be able to get it to look ok.......... but its pretty smashed by the looks

My VL got hit in the rear end right side; other driver at fault.

Got the Comprehensive insurance for the car and bought the car back (from memory $350) from the insurance company and then fixed it myself. It's amazing what a hydraulic Jack can do plus a bit of help from this forum can achieve.

Having said that, I bought the car off my Father Inlaw and he looked after the car extremely well too.

If I had my time again I'd get the at fault driver's insurance company to fix it and then get a couple of good mates to help you go over the car to make sure the work has been done in a professional manner.

Remember though that, if you look around you can always find another good car and with a few more added dollars you may be even more happier with something else.

But! Sorry to hear the bad news, keep ya chin up mate, things will work out

Best of luck with it mate. After the VC, the last thing you need is another car lost to someone who couldn't care less about it.
