I had similar problems, fuses kept blowing lights playing up etc.
Nailed it down to a bad earth in the trailer loom and some very poor connections.
Where the rear tail light loom was spliced into the trailer light plug it got really hot
I fixed the problem by ensuring there was a really good earth connection to the body of the car in the rear boot-well and I soldered each wire to the correct coloured electrical cable. Then I individually insulated each wire with good quality electrical tape and then taped the whole lot together to ensure a nice water-prooof join

And presto, no more problems.
Having said that, I'm no electrician, and unless you know a bit about electrics disregard my post.
If you do muck around with the electrics especially if you do any soldering make sure the negative lead is disconnected from the battery terminal before you start any soldering work.
But your best bet is to see an auto-electrician.
