Default Help! VL Bonnet Cable Snaped!

The VL bonnet cable snapped just then. Before I would pull the lever and giver the corner a couple of light hits and she will pop up and was happy to live with that now I just did the same thing and I heard it snap.
Check at the lever and can pull the cable so it snapped for sure.

Anyone got any suggestions? I put a crowbar in the center but I dont really want to give it too much more because I think I'll break the plastic nose panel...

The best way to get in is from under the front, prise the springloaded twang back with a screwdriver. Holden still sell the cable new, comes with a new lever and will set you back about $40 and 45 mins to install.

Might do a how-to on this tomorrow, im sure it's happened to a few people now me included on both my VL and VN.

Ok Cheers mate! I'll give it a crack tomorrow. I had a quick look under there through the little metal squares not much room to play with but I'll give it a shot, hopefully I wont have to take the front bumper off, Just put it back on lol.

I just got one from the u pull it cost me $9 and it shows you how to get the old one out before you try on your car and break anything. I would be suprised if it takes you 45 mins, it seriously took me about 15

Yeah another vl would be best ideally, I wouldn't get a second hand one it'd be just as much trouble.

I'm going to drop my car off to the mechanics tomorrow and get him to chuck a new one in while he has it.

Pretty easy job to get them out though, even easier considering it's snapped. Unhook it from the spring at the front and pull it through the firewall. The lever bit slides off easy.

As jetspin has said thats the way to do it, I got mine the other day by going through the grill with a screwdriver, wedged it in there and it popped.

I would like to say I got it, but it wasn't overly easy. I had to take out the letter box grill so it would make things a little bit easier. ****ing around for an hour trying to get the little latch, bloody fan was in the way. Cut myself and kept going and finally got it.
    YAY
No need to buy a new cable. I just used a little metal clip that I found then used some accelerator wire that I had. I rejoined it to the broken part then wrapped the end around the latch. It Actually works better than ever!

Just spray some wd40 or something up the end of the cable, that's about as much as you can do I guess.

Best bet would be to call Holden and ask them But I'm fairly sure they do still sell them.

Installation is the opposite of removal, tie the bonnet end of the cable to the lever end of the old one, pull the old one through the firewall, follow the same route as the old with the new one, reconnect the latch, make sure the screw is holding the cover. You may need to provide some more slack/tension by moving it along.

And hey presto you have a new cable.

So you can't open the bonnet at all? You can either find out where the cable snapped and give it a pull, or you can take the grille out and go nuts with a flat headed screwdriver. If you take the grill off you can see how it works and you just have to push it from there.
