Angry ford part used on a holden (from factory!!)

my research on vl parts today revealed that the courtesy light used in vb,vc,vh,vk sl/e's along with the vl calais are actually are a part sourced from ford. i thought id share that new's with you all.

So is the VN/P light and probably every other model . You get that when only one shop in the country is making lights for cars. But I think you'll find many many parts of Falcons and Commodore come from the same factorys, steering racks come to mind for example

so is the headlight swithc from VR onwards, guy at work has the exact same switch in his falcon and i think the switch for the electric mirrors were very similar also and they also share diffs as well in a few models

From memory the tooling for the plastic fold down bit in the VN-VS rear seat was bought from Ford after the XF Falcon.

    ha.some funny comments.

same on my old vc,fan is from an opel so is the radiator shourd, even with the opel logo.leads me to think wat in a commodore is actually australian and apart from the fact they were built here.

Well, the engine, for starters? Also I'd imagine parts of the suspension...the reason why Holden didn't just import Opels was because when they brought a few over to test, they literally fell apart - the front strut area in particular wasn't designed to stand up to Australian conditions. (Aussie roads are, well...a bit "agricultural" compared to German roads...)

As I recall the VB was two types of Opel welded together and beefed up. As for the engines, well your half right... but I suppose your talking mainstream so I'll let you off. Yes the Alloytec and the Ecotec were aussie made, but the Ecotec was based on the Buick V6 of the VN VP and VR that was of course, American. Jappa's outfitted the RB's to the VL, and every V8 since the VT series 2 has been Yank.

Yeah...when I said the engine...I was actually referring to the VB - VK (which used either a 202 or 308, or a StarFire)

Most of those parts are just a generic part manufactured by another companyt and supplied to any manufacturer as requested. If you look closely on the interior lights and most other bits you will see ford quite clearly. People don't seem to pick up that it also says GMH on it. Meaning HOLDEN!

Exactly!!! You don't see the people on Ford forums ranting about how their Falcons have a part in them labeled "GM", do you? I know that the VN - VS ones not only have both GM and Ford, but also have the GM and Ford part numbers...as others have said, its just a common part, which has both part numbers on it to make it easier to order it.

Besides, lets face it, you wouldn't pass up a T5 manual just because it came out of an EA, or a tuned RB30 that came out of a Skyline, would you?

I was told that the gear boxs/diffs in the vl commodores where actually ford items, anyone clarify?? i know cause a guy @ work used to laugh about the vl saying: if you take out the nissan motor the borg warner box all you have left from holden is a rolling shell!! but then i spose if thats true you dont even have a rolling shell as the design was based on the opel reckford

i really dont see why people knock vl's in particular bout there engine. coz if u look at it,the red ,blue and black motor was really a chev design from the 50's and the eco tec is from a buick background, then if u go bak even further the fx thru to ej was powered buy the grey motor which dates from the 30's and again it wasnt a holden designed
the germans designed it, the aussies built it, the japs got it moving and the wogs got it dosing...
