gear shifter question

hey guys got the shifter out of my gear box, i took it out in the first place coz i want to make it shorter and i will probably bend it to so it doesnt hit the handbrake anymore. but by looking at it im not sure how im gonna shorten it, and ideas ?? and also there is a piece of hose on the end of it ?? why is this ? i got my conversion done at a place i found to be dodgy after. is there ment to be somesort of rubber gromit or something instead of this hose ??

that peice of hose should actually be a whit plastic collar of about thesame size........better of cutting of at end of the back (where meets silver ) and weld the silver 9bottom half) on to a smaller top half.....would be easy to make yourself if u have a welder and tap and die set

thanks mate , yeah i found out what was ment to be there the other day so ordered one from nissan, and for the shifter i just cut it at the end of the thread for now then when im back at work im gonna put it on the lathe and make the start of the black bit a bit skinnyer and put on thread on it, hopefully that will work as i dont have manny tools at home, your idea sounds good though might give it a try if mine doesnt work to well
