when i 1st got the ell someone told me that they once knew someone who could balance a 50 cent piece on its edge, on the rocker cover of a running rb30 engine.ever since i herd this i wanted to be able to do it. i tried when i 1st got the car to no avail. but after a few months of tuning and perfecting i got it.
i took this vid on the my pov pak camera with no sound. but i had a better vid that i took on my phone ,that went for a bout a minute without it falling over, the file got corupted tho and i lost it.anywho enjoy
YouTube - 50 cent balancing on rocker cover of running rb30
the germans designed it, the aussies built it, the japs got it moving and the wogs got it dosing...
i've heard of this b4 but nether really thought much of it.....
good work man

HONESTLY OFFICER, IT WAS CONSECUTIVE U TURNS..
Impressive!!!
Shut up when I'm talkin' to you, you hear me, answer me!
Nicely done, I know what I'm doing this arv haha. I'm curious, it's pretty smooth but everynow and then I get a good shudder - thinking it's an electrical problem.
Hehehe lets see a v6 commy doing this lol. Should post it in the PUB section.... Minux always gets up me when I say how smooth the rb30 is... He thinks its rough as guts.

I've done this too!!
and the first time i drove with the rb30, i thought it had stalled at the first set of lights i pulled up to, as it didn't have the friendly v6 vibration to remind me the motor was still running
(all the 20c and dollar coins I tried balancing just rolled away- as opposed to falling on their sides)
Mine wont do it, cam is too lumpy
Most of the V6 harshness comes from old engine mounts. The VL 6 is a very smooth motor
But the V6 wont idle with a 50 cent bit on - ever.

I rekcon my VN V6 would idle with a 50 cent on it just after being started, it has a habit of idling very smooth while cold, but the most testing I've done was stick a glass of water on it and look for ripples, still I'm pretty sure it would hold a 50 cent for a while
okjust took this video 10 minutes ago: vt v6 commodore factory tune never touched any idle settings etc etc.
this is out the front of my house on a hill and its windy also.
YouTube - coin on motor
no longer a hoon by association - the commodore is gone
the 186 engine in my old HR seemed about as smooth as the RB 30
Thats one smooth V6. Lets see who can have a 50 cent coin balancing for the longest. Im out, my VL misses on idle lol.

I reckon mine could do that
Err, maybe some super glue to the base of the coin
Na, I'm going to try that tomorrow, my stock VL 5 speed runs smooth as; she's done a fair few K's but still runs beaut; great fuel economy too.
Crikey! I just love competitions![]()
yeah i'd have to try that on mine.
not a six..

he mate it hasnt been easy .preety much started by replacing every sensor and soldering on new plugs.got a new afm.replace all old hoses that could have leak'd air.new timing belt.and just spent ages tunning using the 02 meter a scope ..
i rekon a comps a good idea...post your vids!!!

Ha ha , i remember when the VL first came out Holden had an ad on t.v with a VL with a 50c piece on the rocker cover . ( showing my age here ) .Then Nissan had one not long after with a VL driving past in the back ground and there was a voice over saying something along the lines of " If you think that cars good you should drive the car that the motor was really designed for " then it pans across to a Nissan .

Ok here's a dumb question , what is a O2 meter ? is something used to check and adjust your air/fuel ratio or something ? I know that Holden/Nissan set the timing at 15 deg btdc for a reason but would having it set @ 17-20 while using BP ultimate affect the smooth idle ? It idles fairly smooth but i could be a lot better .

How did you go about tuning it? You just using the standard computer? Mines pretty smooth but nowhere near that smooth.... Just gone thru and refreshed any corroded wires/joins etc. I am really impressed by this and have always wanted to make mine run better.. didnt realise you could get it this good tho :O:O musta been driving a vn for too long lmao.
my totally shagged RB30 will do this...
oh! it has to be running?
no, in all seriousness, the odometer reads 640,000kms, but doesn't move, one of the first things I did after getting the car was balance a 50 cent piece on it, and it balances pretty well...
wow, I only just watched the video now, and yours wobbles worse than mine! haha
umm, I think if you can't balance a coin at least as well as in the video, your engine needs some work!
like I said, I did nothing to my engine, just placed a coin on its edge, on the top when I first got the car, and it balanced quite well.
you should all be ashamed of yourselves!
