Default Difference between S2 and S1

I dont have a clue if my calais is a s2 or and s1. anyway to tell? the plastic on the top of the back seat is faded in most areas cept around to vaguel headrest shaped parts so im thinking it once had the rear headrest which were s2.

this is only circumstantial tho, any proper way to tell?

its a 1987 build if that helps?

is it a calais?? if so these are the differences between the two (they both had rear headrests)

this is wat s2 has diff
    Interor:
    padded glove box
    solid headrest
seat rails are able to be unbolted
    velour had a better design
dash cluster was black (every other model had the blue square lines)
    Buttons were put on seats
vents for the heater were colour coded to the dash
centre console was velour where s1 was leather type

    Engine:
was built ready for a turbo
the belt for the alternator was smaller (first of some s2 had the s1 belts but from i think march 1987 they changed to the smaller ones)
power steering pipe was run differant and gave better responce
Pwr steering pump same brand just made diff
Alternater (most fitted with bosch but some had hitachi wasnt just for the calais model)

some models vary cause these whernt added over night was over a few months

Series 1 seats have low rectangle headrest, series 2 have higher square(er) ones.

Pretty sure that goes for all levels across the range.

There is no series 1 and series 2 VL. "updated" parts were fitted at any given time of production.

Obviously, its just easier than referring to them as 'early' and 'late' models.....

This is what I can think of atm

*Door trims on the newer calais are different to the older calais
    * Berlina seats are slightly different
*Dash boards on the newer calais are different
*Some had the "CALAIS" badge above the stereo

Thats all I can think of atm.

thats true but about 98% of the population tell the differnce between the "S1 and S2" by the interior its probley the easiest way to tell the diff between the later and earlier.

but as i stated earlier thats all the changes they mad between the Calais range. if i missed any please tell us as that has been extensive research by a bunch of members on another forum

The headrest change was across all luxury levels, so the rectangle ones for all early models, and square ones for later models.

the non turbo engines had the turbo water connection at the rear of the block, LH side for S2 only, my wagon is S`1 with a S2 block, the previous owner had no interest in lifting the bonnet, the radiator catch tank got a leak and he really did overcook the engine so an exchange engine was needed

it seems there were no identifing number changes between s1 and s2, Ive never heard any S2 starting numbers
