    Default pod filters destroying afm's

    hey all

i was thinkin bout putting a pod filter on the ol machine.atm iv got the standard air box with a k&n panel filter in it ,does the job but i like the look and sound of a pod over the ol standard airbox..

ive herd tho that pod filters wreck your afm. can anyone clarify this?? as i cant see how a pod filter would be detrimental to the afm operation.

    cheers

I would normally say don't do it, but the VL 3L is the only engine in the Commodore that actually has a positive result form a pod filter.

the afm on a vl is not a hotwire one so the oil from the pod will not affect it .
any power gains from the better airflow will probably be offset by the loss from the hot air though
better off with a high flow element & getting cold air into it.

if your after power stay with the set up you have and CAI it. a pod with out some sort of shielding or a box is a massive waste of time on a vl.

aahhhh yes my mistake they are hotwire.lol
    been a long week.
they have a wire element that can be affected by contamination
just my opinion but a pod in the engine bay is detrimental to performance

I went a slightly different way with my pod.

Not my bay, but the pod enclosure I have, and mine is running off a low mount turbo.

How cool does that actually keep the filter? I would of thought it would of had minimal effect because you're infact shrouding most of the filters surface area with a heat conductive material?

the RB30 lovessss cold air and by putting a pod with no enclosure in its just gonna suck hot air

Mine has a pipe ducting air from the front of the car straight into it.

It is only a problem if your stationary for a long period of time.

unless you can open up the pod shield that is a very valid question, my view on the shielding is that even if you have a pod with a 'cone' filter on the end, cool air isnt being directed to the actual face of the filter.... unless you usually have a cai pipe hooked up to the end of the shield i see it as being pointless, but looks good!

You can see the screws on the enclosure at the turbo end.

yep looks the goods, what about putting a custom flat panel k&n cut in a circular shape so the air flows straight through the pipe?

I guess you could do that if you wanted, my preference was to keep the original airbox.
