engine hard to start

Hi all, My 87 vl's engine has been hard to turn over,But when I put oil into the engine it seems to start more easily, also sometimes starts and it just dies.
It mainly does it if it hasnt been started for a while, It also has a new battery.
does anyone have any ideas of what the problem could be?
any help would be greatly appreciated, ta

Have u checked the usual items like. . . .

1. AFM (air flow meter)
2. CAS (crank angle sensor)
3. Ignition timing
4. lose wires

If the above seem to be ok then i would look at changing ur sparkplugs , ignition leads , oil , filters and basicly give it a general service n stuff .
