Ive got a full vn to strip, bar engine being shot though, alternator etc works still.

what parts will fit my vl? and what parts wont?

any vl/vn experts be able to help me out? both cars r auto... and 6's.

**so far ive decided to take the seats, exhaust since its sports and i can do a custom job to make it fit.**

    cheers

Theres not allot thats interchangeable. things that come to mind are the front strut assemblies (including the brakes) are the same.

I think the VN was built on the VL floorpan to save money, but the body is an inch and a half wider

This is correct, the front tapers in slightly to hide the narrow front track

basically bugger all.... seats won't fit with out modifying and exhaust won't fit, just because they are both auto's and 6's dont mean squat..

Damn... here i was hoping i could get some info here.... Got a vn to strip out myself..
What about electrics? Would the VN power window assemblies fit the vl? or the motors at least.. my VL has some pretty slow ass windows and the VN's are sweet.

Is there any difference between the rear disc brakes in the VN and the rear disc's in the VL?

dropped my VL off at mag an turbo today to get the suspension done, was talking to the guy there, said he used to work at a wrecker, he said because the vn floorpan is the same as the VL, you can drop the whole front end out of a vn (everything from brakes to suspension steering rack i think, crossmember engine mounts and engine) and it will bolt straight into a VL. he's done it on a couple of VL's including a wagon.

That is true. V6 conversion into my Vk was relatively simple.

I've seen a guy with VN switches for his power windows (was in SC mag) so its possible.

stealthy, could you please make a short write up of what it involved? the vl's strut and hub spindle is a 1-piece unit. im not sure how they are putting the shortened shocks in at mag and turbo (im guessing they are just modifying the standard struts and inserting the new shocks in) but do you reckon if i put a vn front end in wuld i have to get the inserts put into vn struts or wuld i be able to use the vl's ones?

    thanks

Sorry i can't help with that, we basically just used the VN K frame, with the VK struts. I was told i could go either way tho, but i already had power steering. If it aint broke, don't fix it.

The only thing that needed modding was the transmission bracket/mount. This was going V8/auto - V6/Manual.

do you know what parts i can keep in the VL if im going to use the VN front end? I've just had the suspension done in it but im pretty sure that the front struts/hubs are the same as the VN, so i just need the crossmember from the VN is that correct?

Do i need the lower suspension arms from the VN as well? and the steering rack? or can I keep the VL ones?

Will the same apply for both V6 and V8 conversion (i realise the engine mounts will be different but i will make sure i get the right mounts from the VN to suit).

and if i use VN V6 or V8 mounts, would a V6 (or V8) from a later model (eg VR or VS) bolt straight on to them? What about an even later model (Ecotec/Alloytec from VT onwards)?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Or if you could give me links to other web pages that have some info that would help a lot.

    Thanks guys

out of curiosity, would this mean that you could mount an rb series engine into a vn?

Yep...the rb30 was originally going to be used in the VN. Replacing the V6 with a RB30 is the 1st step in the right direction too make a VN good.

the gearbox mounts will be different though if your putting a v6 into a vl or an rb30 into a vn. it will have to be modified a bit although i dont know how. for a T5 gearbox (the 5 speed manual that was bolted behind the early v6s) in a VL, i think you have to weld extra pieces on each end and drill new bolt holes in them because the holes on the VL are further apart than on the VN. or something like that im not exactly sure.

so for a rb30 + gearbox into a VN im guessing it'll just be the reverse procedure
