gearbox problem

changed gearbox in a 86 vl all went smoothly but now there is a loud ticking noise when i put it a gear and dont know what i have done wrong , can anybody put me in the right direction ,

sounds like shredded band/s possibly, hard to say without hearing it

Manual or Auto

Have you tried all gears?

Is the tick just in a particular gear?

Does it still tick in reverse?

it is an auto ,,thought i might of put gear linkage on wrong , i never pulled it out ,does the gear cable linkage go to the top or bottom not sure

also it ticks in all gears except park and newtrel
