Got a few questions.
1. What oil filter and oil capacity for the rb30??
2. Anyone out there have a mx7 box? If so, is it a loud box, as in can you head it while on idle ect?? The gears inside I mean.
3. Mx7 box, whats the trans fluid capacity?? And maybe a rundown on how to change it??
Any help would be great.

1.filter number should be Z145A
with filter - 4.7L
without filer - 4.3L
2. does the noise disappear when you put the clutch in?? if so its the thrust bearing
3. Non turbo manual (MX5) - 1.9L
Turbo manual (MX7) - 2.4L
check you can get the filler plug off first, this is half way up on one of the sides
if you can, then remove the plug on the bottom which requires a square typed tool to remove.
drain then replace plug
fill up till the oil is level with the bottom of the fill hole (cant really overfill as it pores out)

Nah the noise doesnt go away, well its not a whining noise or anything, its just not as silent as the vy box if ya know what I mean, I could just be stressing over nothing but I hate the slightest noises...haha

Just dragged her out of the garage for a drive and the noise does go away when ya put the clutch in. Im not fussed over it really, but whats it worth to get the thrust bearing done??
And just realised it has a slight miss fire on idle, any ideas??
And once in a blue moon when reversing or taking off slowly there is a quiet clunk in the rear?????
Any help would be great from anyone.

Clunk could be the tailshaft? It's more of a clank though I guess if it's the tailshaft.
Not too sure how much the thrust bearing is but if it goes away when you put the clutch in I'd say that's going to be your problem.
A miss on idle could be way too many things, just have to start with the basics and work on through, plugs/ leads/ then you're looking into other things like your coil, afm, oxy sensor, cas - if it's not a huge miss I wouldn't worry too much because there are too many options.

is it like the 'ping noise' mine did when it pulled back into the drive way?
if so tail shaft has play
like bax said the list can be long or short, depending what order and the luck you have of fix the right thing first
as for price im not completly sure but a member on here has rebuilt his complete gear box and they might be able to give you a hand or tips on it
