jack up car a bit and get under at back, push body up and down and look for movement at rubber bushes, especially shock absorbers lower bushes

one of the shockers may be worn out, leaking fluid can be a clue

as above and
grab your pan hard rod and try to wobble it if there is movement the bushes are shagged!
from experience the replacement exhausts have a habit of banging in some places, diff housing, fuel tank, rear of car near the hangers and even the seat rails under the car.

push your tire in with your foot as if your kicking it at the top sort of thing and the car and wheel should move as one if there is movement between the 2 your pan hard rod is shagged.

The upper control arm bushes are sure to be shot. My VR had the same problem and when I pulled the arms, the bushes were dead as... Cheap to replace, although buggers to remove the old ones, and the improvement will be very noticeable. Panhard rod bushes also clap out and they are very easy and cheap to replace. Do the lot together, evenif they look half decent.
