Default unusual rack & pinion movement

    hi everyone

Ok i have a problem With the rack and pinion in my VL . The rack ends seem fine but i've noticed the top part has excesive movement in it and it just seems to wonder all over the road at 120 km/h. Is there any way of being able to tighten it or fix it ? The rack was reconditionded 18 months ago so its not all that old . And i don't have the cash to buy a new one at the moment. anyways here's a picture of it

    Hi maxpower

By "top part", I assume you mean the input shaft, which is connected to the steering column? If that is the case, yes, the rack can be adjusted but it should be done by somebody who has the correct tools. The movement is caused by excessive clearance between the input shaft worm gear and the rack. Suggest you take the vehicle to a steering specialist who would be able to set the rack up properly for you. Shouldn't require any parts, just time.

Thanx VYII BERLINA , I thought i'd be up for a new rack and pinion but if it's only a basic adjustment on the input shaft then i'l send it in asap to fixed . Cheers mate
