ive just tried to drive my vl 6 cyl auto home from work and every time it goes above 2250rpm, all revs drop out until i pull my foot off the accelerator.
as soon as i put it back on, it goes sweet unless i go above 2250rpm. it doesnt missfire on one cylinder it wont fire on any of them.
it works fine when in neutral or park, and even when i sit in it and stall it up (foot hard on brake, in gear and rev as hard as you can.)
its got a new cas, new coil, new coil lead and i was looking around wiggling wires on things trying to make it fault but couldnt.
anyone had this before? any ideas what to try?

Could possibly be the air flow meter.

thought i'd give this a try. cant do it today though as my multimeter's still at work
damn. lol
i'll keep you posted if its still rooted tomorrow arvo.

sounds exactly like my car, for four years my car has been doing this I have been told fuel pumps, cas, and afm, i have changed them all and she still does it, I haven't adjusted the afm tho, it is still drivable when I go to start it I let the pump run until I hear it stop (7 seconds) then start it and drives no problems if I start it straight away it won't go over 2000rpm???????????????
Nobody wants to play with me
if its not the AFM i would look into the fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator. Maybe even dodgy or clogged injectors
ok contacts on afm plug are schmicko.
test volts from pins 1 + 6 at 2.8v. adjust to 3.50v
test volts on pins 3 + 4 at 1.24v
didnt make a smidgen of difference.
will try a fuel filter tomorrow

turned out to be fuel filter. so i rigged up two of them in parallel, so it will hopefully
take heaps longer to clog up.

2250 is the revs the VL will cut out at if there's a fault (maf sensor etc) like a limp home mode. I think the filter was a coincidence to what was/is really wrong with the car

i have posted this problem at least twice to no avail, so i have given up i will just live with waiting 7 seconds to start my car, so, there won't be any quick getaways.
goodluck!

no avail. ive tried an afm, but its the same as it was.
anyone know what bits can cause it to go into limp mode?

ok. so ive:
-checked fuel pressure, and its within specs outlined in haynes manual.
-ive tried a new afm
-its got a month old CAS
-it has a month old coil
-ive got a new ignition module.
-ive opened and contact cleaned every block connector in the engine bay
-ive installed 2 new fuel filters in parallel.
ive checked fault codes and they are 14, 23, 24, 31. nothing else
and it still wont rev past 2500 without dropping out. only happens when the air is warm though. the engine dies, and drops to 1500rpm, but if you hold your foot flat, it goes in spurts. doesnt cut out completely.
surely this must have happened to someone else at some time.

It could only be AFM , ECU or the CAS. . . ? I know u've replaced these items . would u know someone who has a VL so u could swap one by one ur AFM , ECU , CAS and posibly coil til you find the faulty part ? What's it like when you let it idle , does it idle ok n stuff ?
yeah im looking on ebay at an ecu atm. thats all else i can think it might be.. ive replaced the coil at the same time as the CAS. lol, i dont know anyone else whose got a vl. it idles beautifully. engine runs fine until it hits 2500ish then buh

Mine had a similar "mystery problem" where the car would just die randomly, turned out to be the 2 middle sparkplugs were not replaced by ultratune epping VIC when they serviced my car. Took the car there to get it fixed and they said it was this, then it was that. $1000ish later and problem still there I took it to bresciani racing who took pity on me and sorted it out.
Later on had another mystery problem and it was the shaft on the dizzy had too much play and was knocking out the CAS temporarily.
One day their ultratune store will be a pile of smoldering rubble LOL (not by me tho hehe KARMA)
lol, yeah i just did the cas and checked the play in the dizzy shaft though. ultratune bastards lol.
