I can't believe no one knows so I will have a guess. It might be where the windscreen wiper mechanism is on the passenger side, under the weather strip. I know that's where it is on a VR. On later models it is behind the glove box.

Still couldnt find resistor, but today went over a bump on comes the fan, with all speeds working,so now I need to find the faulty wiring responsible,at least no parts are required I think .Martin

look in the passenger footwell. there is a black dome. unscrew the screws and out drops the fan. the resistor is in that box area.

might not be your fan resistor causing intermittant fan failure though, could be your a/c control unit. look at the copper circuit board on it and see if thats dirty. careful that the vac hoses dont come off tho unless you have them marked. hope this helps mate.

Thanks Panama,do you mean the dome that protrudes thru the lower trim panel under the glove box,the resistor is in there? The ac control unit, where might that be?and is the dome part of the blower motor there. Thanks for your reply.Martin

the dome is the arse end or an impeller type fan. the resistor is in the engine bay, on the passenger side once you take the black bit off in the channel that the wiper motor is in like accentstencil said.

The only thing under the cover in channel in engine bay is wiper motor at driver end and blower intake at other, nothing else.

im not quite 100% sure
but i recall a simular problem with mine a year or so ago

i think its built into the ac controls
the fan speed selector pivots on a point causing the earth point to move across a row of S bends of copper, the further from the start the slow the fan blows as less power will make the distance

mine had melted/blown a gap in the copper track, so it wouldnt work
