Hi Folks,
I'm new to this site, sorry If I’m posting to the wrong area.
My Son has a VL that he brought a year ago.
At the time it came with a roadworthy (god knows how).
A few months ago, I suspected that there may be a problem with the front end, lately my son mentioned that it seems to be getting worse.
I took it to a suspension place, and they said it needs a bunch of thing done.
Anti Roll Bushes,
Ball joints,
Caster Rod bushes,
Control arm bushes,
Strut mounts.
Basically a lot of suspension work.
I also have 3 old Alfas that I pull apart and work on regularly.
They have different suspension to the Commodore (no McPherson struts) and are very easy to work on. I know those cars inside-out but I'm new to VL Commodores.
Can any one direct me to technical information which may help me understand the VL suspension, and what I’m up against, If it’s worth fixing , or if I should just turf the car altogether.
i.e. are there any technical Web sites that I should look at?
Your help would be much appreciated
thanks
my advice is to purchase a gregorys manual as they are very helpfull with suspension and well everthing on the car.....as for getting rid of it it all depends on what you wanna do....if teh car is in good nick (besides these problems) then id say keep it if your son is happy with it.
i think elleries manual is better, it has more detail, make sure you get the VL one son might be better off getting another VL if his is badly worn and bashed about
Keep the car if its in good shape otherwise (mech, rust etc) they are great to drive when all sorted, some vl's are getting very long in the tooth at 22 years old and are more than likely on all original rubbers that are long since buggered. It shouldn't cost allot to fix or be too difficult if you get a workshop manual.
