Default VL 5.0 ltr Limited Edition

    Hi guys,
I have my VL which is limited edition. She has a 308 motor and is automatic. Built May 1988. I am struggling to get any information on this particular model. All anyone can tell me is that its rare. I want to know so much more like How many were built etc. I have had issues trying to insure her because even the insurance company didnt know what to put her under. Did try Holden but maybe looking in the wrong place or asking the wrong people. One thing I do know for sure is that the police and I are getting to know each other quite well and a little shocked to see an older female driving!!!! Would love your help. Can email pics if needed.

    cheers

One thing i can tell you for sure, its a carby 304 not a 308. The 308's stopped coming out in the vk series.

Is it a specific model and is it a holden or hsv???

Post up some photos so we can see

The LE's were often Motor show "special" cars with lots of good bits added to get sales.

As Sean mentioned, i'm leaning towards its a series 200. Never knew one to come out in a 304 tho.

OK the A9Q code is a Dealer Marketing Group car May 88. FE2 suspension, standard 3.08 diff. LV2 V8 (I have the LV2 engine pegged at 172kws - can anyone confirm this?)

Thinking - that must be the group A power fig.

The Holden V8 bible says the LV2 engine with a "VA" prefix had 111kws

The LV2 engine with a "VJ" prefix had 172kws.

So is the 122kws an update version?

What holden V8 bible is that? The only one i use is the History of the Holden V8.

The "VJ" prefix LV2/304 V8s are the ones you see in the non HDTs. The "VA" prefix is the VK 304s.

That depends what era the red 308 is, before pollution or after. the red 308s in VBs only had 115kW with single zorst, 125kW with dual zorst.

    Thanks for yor info.

I have used: Spotlight on Commodore 78-88 amd Perfomance handbook 86-93.

I've looked at the History of the Holden V8 book - and hinted that it would make a great Xmas pressy - I'll have to wait and see

Now after looking at my engine prefix table - Yep it is the VK/LV2 "VA" prefix - my bo bo.

I also have the "VJ" prefix for the standard & HDT engines (option LB9 @ 122kws & LV2 @ 172kws) and the A9L option "VW" prefix @ 180kws. Does that match the Holden V8 bible?

The Later motors were messured in SAE net HP with all accessories and exhaust plugged on, The earlier motors were messured in brake HP with nothing attached to them and no exhaust (even maybe some nice 4-1s on for the test only) and that's most of the reason they messured higher, but there's actually very little real power difference between them, nothing a quick spin of the distributor doesn't fix. Brock allways messured his cars in Brake HP (nothing attached) and they allways read much higher because of that

Umm, don't have it with me, but i know the VJ prefix blocks are what is used in the Holdens, non HDT VLs. The VW is what HDT used.

I haven't heard of the LB9 option, but the VLs that i have seen have LV2 on the build plate, 304 ci V8.
