    Default replacing water pump

    hi,

i'm half way through replacing the water pump on my 1987 commodore station wagon (3 litre 6 cyl engine) and there is one bolt i cant get to behind the timing belt tensioner, to remove the timing belt tensioner i have to take the pulleys on the crank shaft off, this is where i'm stuck, i have the first pulley off, i just cant get the next two off! anybody help me here?

the harmonic balancer (big puley at the bottom of the engine) has a bolt that needs to to be removed before you can take the harmonic balancer off , i think it's 27 mm socket that you'l need and then you'l also need a pulley puller to remove the harmonic balancer or a pry bar wedged in behind it on both side to pry it off the crank shaft , just be carefull not to break anything and you'l be cool .

here's a photo of the engine with the harmonic balencer and timming belt cover removed hope that helps .

Ok do you have a impact wrench (more comonly known as a rattle gun) ? To undo the bolt turn it anti clockwise . I used a breaker bar on the socket with a short extention , got a hammer and hit the end of the bar til it came loose , you may want to spray some WD40 or CRC on it and let it soak firts though coz mine was farkin tight lol so yeah try that

just loosen off the belt and remove the tensoner, this will allow the blet to be moved out of the way, and you dont need to remove the ballancer, however you should remove the ballancer and belt so you dont contaminate the belt but if you have no other choice than you can do it this way.....
