Default removing steering wheel to fix indicator stalk

hi all, my indicator stalk broke right at the column, and i got a new one used for 45 bucks, but i can't seem to get the steering wheel off to fit it in place. i took the horn assembly off, and unscrewed the massive bolt in the middle of the wheel, but i can't seem to remove the wheel and i'm pulling as hard as i can. i'm a bit new at car repair (just changed oil and brake pads, that sort of thing) so any help would be appreciated. model is an 87 SL executive. thanks.

try some wd40 and let it sit for an hour or so.
when you pull it try to pull in sharp bursts not just pulling it hard but pull it fast
    it will give way eventually

Yeah steering wheel puller is the right way to do things.

Whatever you do, leave the nut threaded on a little bit at the end, or else you're looking at a broken nose and missing teeth.

If you want to do it with sheer muscle, like I said, loosen the nut but leave it on. Plant your feet, grab the wheel, stand and push off with your legs while wriggling between left and right hand.

However, safest way is a steering wheel puller.

For the record, I think the indicator stalks are only 50 dollars new, on ebay and from Holden I believe. Well that's where I got my last one from.

I know it's off now but for others as mentioned above a puller is the best way also as above wd40 and leave the nut on flush with the end of the shaft.
get an assistant 1 grab the steering wheel towards the centre (not the wheel ring) pull with your weight and hold the pressure while the assistant TAPS (not hard!)the nut and shaft with a hammer. after a few firm taps the wheel will pop.
remember to mark the spline so the wheel goes back on straight.
and don't tighten the nut until you are sure it is in line with the front wheels going straight.
