on the auto theres a vacuum line that goes to a modulator on the auto trans, if the diafram on this splits it will suck trans fluid up to the intake manifold causing rapid loss of fluid and smoke on starting up
    is this the one?

just looked at mine,it goes to a small t-piece which is connected to the windscreen washer hose, and that loops back to the inlet manifold.

    that cant be possible
the manifold wouldnt be connected to the washer bottle pipe as it would suck water into the motor which is a big no no

goes to the vacum canister under the bumper at the front right hand corner.it provides vacum to the diaghrams that control the vents
the germans designed it, the aussies built it, the japs got it moving and the wogs got it dosing...

hmm..memory is coming back to me now..i dont have my vl.so i cant go and see where mine runs..its vacum line number 4..thinking about it now iam preety sure it goes to the smaller fitting on that t-piece you have in the 2nd picture..then there should be another small t-piece with a one way check valve in it.so the vacum tank can store vacum...then supply it when the engine is off.

have a look one page 167 of max ellerys workshop manual..shows a picture of the t-piece and the vacum line number 4 coming from between the 2 heater hoses..if you look closely.looks like it runs down then splits off into a another smaller t-piece that is kinda hidden behind the trannsmision dipstick..that other line from the t-piece is the one that runs to the vacum tank..but make sure u get the right ends of the t-piece because it allso acts as a one way check valve.so if you install it wrong it wont work

the bigger one pointing to the left
is it for the chachol canister? if it is ill just plug it as ive got rid of mine or does that run to the vacum ball???

Ok,i just had another look(after painting half the house),pulled out the water canisters to follow hose route.
Pipe from between heater hose goes to T piece.Out of the Right hand exit goes thru the previously mentioned 1 way valve to the inlet T piece.
The left hand hose goes to the vac canister under the front R/hand guard. And I've just found mine disconnected and split down there.

    Yep,stuffed up earlier,i just gave the hose a tug/rattle and assumed,wrongly.
    cheers
    colin.

cheers for that Colin and starfire
so bassically i just need to cut a 't' piece into where ive got it running to now and then run a pipe of that 't' piece to the vacum ball

to easy...... just have to deside which way im routing it to the ball though

and the other one i plug off as its for autos. now i think of it i recall having a pipe up in that area plugged off

what exactly does that vaccum ball do? im planning on completely removing my heater/cooling system from inside the car as its not working anyway.fan doesnt go,switches are broken etc.so can i get rid of that stupid ball thing? i'm guessing thats what all those hoses on the air vent controls go to?
