    Default RB30 Conversion Help

    Hi All,

Wondering if someone could help me out a little??

I am currently performing an engine conversion for my off road buggy that I race to a straight RB30 to a manual transaxle box. I have got my hands on a RB30 engine with a auto wiring loom and ECU.

Just wondering a couple of things:
    1. Can I run the Auto ECU?
    2. Do I need a different TPS

Is there any thing else I should be aware or think of?
Or should I be getting my hands on a Manual ECU and loom (or adapt auto loom)?

Does anyone have a wiring manual available?

    Thankyou

The only difference in the maps between the auto and manual ecu that I can see is the Fuel cut & Recovery tables for when the TPS switch is 'on' - basically this is the fuel cut for when you are engine braking etc.

Really, it shouldn't effect anything too much, however you might notice a rough patch on engine breaking, and that will be it.

The other issue you might have is that you need a speed signal for the ECU to even enable the fuel cut on decel - otherwise you'll still be pumping fuel in to the motor even when you're completely off the gas and going down a hill.

Check out the speed senders on r31 skyline gearboxes/trans' and see if you could adapt it to suit your cog-swapper - I recommend chatting to Ringwood speedometer service if you're in Melb, they make some nifty adapters etc.

The speed signal doesn't need to be 'accurate' as such, but if it reads over 500km/h it will 'speed limit' you (and cut fuel etc), and if it never reads over 8km/h when you're moving, it will be like having no speedo sensor at all

Another bit of into that might come in handy, is that the R31 skylines have a 'divide by 5' circuit in the dash. so for e.g. the speedo sender will send 10 pulses to the dash, but only 2 of those make it through to the ECU.
