so how is it done????? im sick of swearing at it and carnt figger it out
the following is when the steering column has been removed from the car follow the instructions for the lock cylinder only you DO NOT need to remove the steering column!
1. remove steering wheel
2.lower column cover
3.indicator switch mechanism
now the igniton lock cylinder
also you may need to break the slot with a screwdriver, and press th clip with a piece of hacksaw blade or paper clip or similar.![]()

I am not sure about the horn other than, that fuse is the brake light and electric aerial fuse also. you could try the horn relay in the fuse box.

it did work before i changed the barrel now it wont play ball
so basically this thread is about how to steal a VL commodore with your own ignition barrel and key. lol
no longer a hoon by association - the commodore is gone
yeah or how to replace your ignition to help prevent your car to be started with any vl key....
if that is the case then it would have to be the single wire behind the horn pad or the springs behind there take it off again and just check it all looks ok
oh and also maybe check the contacts on the back of the steering wheel (you know the round copper strips) maybe they got a bit of grime on them when you removed the wheel.

ok ill try that i might get some of that elec contact cleaner
hey guys,
Just wanted to kno, the technique that youv posted up is only possible via having the previous key, turning onto ON and then removing the ignition barrel, wat about if you lost the key? How do u get it to on to take the barrell off?
you would use another key or you would pull the barrel out just like a thief would so you can activate the ignition with a screwdriver

haha must be ignition barrel failure time as mine just went on the missus while she was up at the shops! However on the VS all you have to do is remove shroud from around steering collum and put key in ignition turn to on position and there is a small hole on the side of the lock mechanism and all ya have to do is get a piece of wire in there and the whole cylinder just slides out!! Was awesome as i was about to go hard @ it with a crowbar but the old man was there to help me out and tell me what to do![]()

Hi,
I removed my ignition barrel, easy- since the long pin thingy wasn't connected (and car could be started with anything). Got a new one, tried to put it in, didn't go in easy, used hammer and got it in.
Once in, the key wouldn't turn the barrel (it was a little touchy beforehand) so i thought i'd remove the barrel. It doesn't come out!
I tried screwdrivers and blades in the slot to push the pin but it wouldn't come out still.
After constant playing around with the steering column the whole assembly that holds the ignition came off and hit me in the face. (The part that holds onto the metal rod that starts the car broke off).
Now that have got this whole assy off you would think removing the barrel would be easy, no. I've tried everything lifting the pin, pushing and rotating and still it wont come out, i have drilled holes in the front, back, and the barrel itself and i just can't get it out.
Does anyone have any ideas or do I have to replace the steering column?
Cheers.
