Default vl idles ruffly for a bit then stalls(after replacing injectors+Fuelreg)

    Hi,

I've been reading the posts on this forum and I have to say the response is awesome, anyway I thought I'd pick some brains as I'm not sure which direction too go with the problem with my vl.

ok problem with vl is I had some leaking injectors and the car was shaking badly when I tried too drive it on petrol but it was fine on gas, I had stalling issues on both but fixed after securing air intake for gas and pipe above air reg for petrol, mechanic told me I needed a new fuel regulator which was the cause of the shaking when I tried to drive, so not having much dough I got a second fuel rail with injectors serviced which came with a fuel reg but second hand, so I replaced the injectors with the serviced ones and also replaced the fuel reg, put everything back together now instead of having both petrol & gas idle well but only drivable on gas, I now have rough idle on petrol which after a bit stalls, two minor leaking injectors but good idle and drive on gas, I have checked all tyhe pipes going to the plenum and leads, checked for vacuum leaks everything seems connected and I'm trying to work out if the injectors are the culprit or the fuel reg which I'm not sure of its true condition, I'm happy 2 save a replace but cant work out which is causing the rough idle, also driving on petrol is sluggish but fine on gas. any suggestions on what I should do are appreciated or things 2 try welcome. thx in advance

Well it turns out that the leaking injector I have isnt working at all, thats why its leaking, I put a test light on it and the light works(pulses) but when I touch the injector I dont feel the pulse of it fireing, when the injectors were serviced I was told they all worked and better spray pattern, so its running on 5 cylinders on petrol but fine on gas, better replace that injector.

    *Update*

Ok after replacing injectors and getting one leaking and not working at all I got another injector serviced and tested to replace the non functional one, I also changed the inlet manifold and plenum chamber and fuel pressure reg this being the 3rd one in it, also changed the leads & dizzy cap. ok after all this it runs fine on gas except if you put your foot down too much it'll backfire through manifold and stall, it still Idles like crap on petrol and eventually stalls, I've change what the mechanic said to change fuel pressure reg & fixed leaking injector, no injector leaks but it still idles roughly on petrol but drivable, also putting foot down on petrol or gas doesnt get me good results. its @ the mechanics as I'm put all the time and money I can afford at this time of year but its really annoying to not have a better result after all the work.

No havent tested AFM(I've been suspecting it) but since it runs fine on gas idle and driving apart from the backfire I thought if the AFM was crook then it would run crap on both petrol & gas. The mechanics got it atm so I'll wait and see what he says.

If it runs fine(ish) on gas & crap on unleaded then i'd say it's your AFM , or if it runs really bad on both gas & unleaded then it's probably your CAS .

Before I got all the injectors sorted and working(not leaking or not working at all) it ran perfect on gas, it idled well and I exclusively drove it 2 work on gas, only started it on petrol even with the stalling problems then switch it to gas once I had it running for a little bit, I can still drive it on petrol but for the idleing, also when I put the foot down too much on gas it will backfire and stall, this happens when going uphill or trying to overtake, and on petrol I put the foot down for the same reasons and it just didnt get up and go like it used too, after changing the injectors & fuel pressure reg running it on gas is the same, running on petrol is the same, these forums have been great to help with looking for the problem but unfortunately I can only do so much time & money wise so I've done the changes that were suppose to fix the problems too no avail, I've read about the leads possibly causing backfire & adjusting of the spark plugs but havent tried as I havent got the car, the mechanic adjusted the richness of the gas last time I took it in, but it made no difference. Everything ran fantastic for ages except for the injector leak and it just gone down hill quick. I've certainly learned a hell of a lot from working on the car and checkin these forums, the response is fantastic, thx too all for that.

    Default *Update*

Well After getting the injectors sorted, replacing the inlet manifold, chaning the plenum chamber and putting it all back together, I drove it to work the next day but didnt make it to work, the car broke down on the way and I had it towed to the mechanic as I had no time, the mechanic spent a week looking looking at the car, checked over the work i'd previously done and still couldnt find the problem untill he got an auto elect in who tested and discovered the distributor was the problem, apparently it was firing badly which cause the backfires and the car too die when climbing hills, so that was replaced with a s/h as well as the thermal sensor, got the car back and it runs fantastic, even if i had of worked the problem out myself, I didnt have the time nor the money to do the work, nore have I ever changed the distributer, i have a workshop manual I'd had enough, so had my wife, so the car is back and I'm owing the mechanic $360. At least I know everything I did was right, I just ran out of resources(time+money)
