Default Tell me a story VL boys

I was just wondering what date/VIN or Engine number did the engines with the drain plug start. And also if it was right at the begining of series 2 how to I identify a series 2 from a series one. I'm most likey buying one online so I need to be able to tell this stuff from pictures. Also what's the difference between the SL and Executive and why is the SL 30 kilos lighter? no air con or what?

Holden have never referred to VL (or VN) as series 1 or 2 cars. VQ (or VP for SWB) were the first models with this.

Its just easyer saying S1 S2, cause there should have been a S1 and S2 with the VN cause of alot of differant changes like the 91vn with the VP motor.

if u really wanna get picky there was a series 1 and 2 in the wb statesman deville and caprice back in the 80s .. then it never came back until the vq

but pretty much holden chopped and changed the vl for 16 months from the production date so for pretty much more then half the production run of the vl it was constantly changing.. so if aim for a model with a later production date

    Just Commodores, not just Holden

Its just like me saying the VP was the first international series, when it was infact the 2nd, it was just the first in the commodore bodied range, But you knew that yeah?
