Hello,
What would cause the steering to twitch when turning? when I turn right the steering will twitch back the other way for a second, it doesnt always do it but its a little scary, recently had a s/h steering rack put in as the other was stuffed, after that all was good for a bit but the the car started drifting or pulling to one side so I got a wheel alignment & balance done and after the steering felt good, except now I have this twitch where it feels like its trying to correct itself, it doesnt always do it but its scary when it does, the last time it happened I was on some curving road going right to left and it felt like it twitched both directions one after the other quickly as I was going from right to left, also my tires are worn/ low tread on the inside of both wheels, could this be a bad alignment/balance or something worn out?
check that the steering rack is tight on the cross member and the lower steering shaftclamp should be tight also, the tie rod ends maybe worn. the uneven tyre wear is caused by bad wheel alignment a bad wheel alignment will cause all sorts of issues other possible causes are worn balljoints, suspension bushes, damaged cross member and/or lower control arms and maybe a worn steering rack.

Hello,
thx for your thoughts, before I got the balance the diff has been making a whining noise, I read some of the other posts and tried pushing on the side of the car on both sides above the rear wheel arc but cant see any sideways movement or play, could the diff be the reason for the twitch, could the rear be moving slightly because of the diff making me think its the steering?
anything is possible but judging from your description I would concentrate more on the front end, if it was the rear you would feel the very slight sideways slip in your seated position and being slight I doubt it would effect the steering wheel to a point of noticing it as you have described.

It could be the panhard rod bushes worn which will let the diff move from side to side, It is easier to check the bushes from down a pit. If you don't know anyone with a pit then try parking your car with two wheels up on the footpath so it is easier to crawl in underneath.
I got the mechanic to take a look at it, he said the diff was stuffed but wouldnt be causing the steering twitch, he then said a balljoint was the culprit, anywayz I got the diff changed due to it whining, and got the ball joint fix on the front left and so far all seems good. just thought I'd let yaz know. thx
check your power steering fluid.
This is good site to watch.I found it informative as I have been researching a lot lately on such matters such as you talk about.
excellent all sorted, left side suspension will always wear out quicker than right due to the extra load/drag on that side being further from the steering shaft and being the gutter (bashing) side.
