    Default vl/v8 calais wagon

hi everyone just registered and would like to know what you think about a vl/v8/calais/wagon i have the oportunity to purchase. interior is in really good nick, the paint is not to bad but probably would need a respray in the near future to make it smik. its done 238000k can see some oil leaks under the engine but i havent heard or seen the donk yet.it needs some minor metal trim on drivers outer door, its done a bit of gravel work by the dust underneath but genrally looks ok id say someone has done a skid in it recently has rubber stuck on one mudflap and near bald tyre. but due to only 50 being made i think. it may be a good one to restore.they want $7000 for it but i think they will be open to offers being at a dealers your thoughts apprietiated thanks .

    welcome
Im sure more than 50 were made, dont know how many but they were made towards the end of the VL run when it was realised some wagons would be left over
$7000 is far too much it would be worth only about $2000, they arent a collectors item

when looking at any VL, check for rust around front and real windscreens

Didnt know you could get a calias wagon untill VE?

As Harry3 said, 7 thousand is way too much for a 20+ year old car thats been thrashed. It does seem a cool project to restore, but personally I wouldnt bother unless you are able to talk them down to 2 grand or less. Even then, get them to replace the tire and clean it up.

as someone said, check all around the front and rear windows for rust.

also, for $7000 it would wanna have no oil leaks, a recon motor, new springs, shocks, bushes, ball joints in the suspension, and all new tyres!

    otherwise $2000 MAX!

Has it got the rear headrests? Other than that (and checking the option codes) theres no real way to tell a calais wagon from a berlina with mock front.

It doesn't actually say 'THIS IS A CALAIS WAGON' with flashing lights around it.

Not alot of people know how to read the codes for every model.

lol i never said they do but if hes on here it wouldnt be hard to find out what code it is from the net... maybe he could put one of those flashing lights on his back window to tell people what it is... (oh and i was joking bout the flashing sign)

Thats fine, your reply sounded as tho it was directed at me (considering you already replied before me!)

I've seen plenty of mock up wagons, NONE have had the rear headrests. Considering VK wagons didn't have them, they'd have to be pretty rare!

sorry for bumping an old thread but i found this interesting

i thought these would be worth a fair bit like upwards of 5000 easy? especially since sedan versions of the VL calais 5L sell for $5000.

and the calais wagons are definintly much much rarer.

im looking at a calais wagon today with a 5L for $5000, good price or not?

STEALTHY, hardly any VL Calais Wagons came factory with rear headrests, so you can count that one out!

the ONLY way to check that its an original Calais Wagon is that it has "A9Y" stamped on the tags as an option code after the VIN number.

ive got a news article somewhere that states there were 200 "A9Y" real calais wagons made, 100 RB30, 50 RB30 turbo and 50 V8.

HDT did convert some wagons to a calais 'spec' but were not labelled as calais or even hdt for that matter because of the limited mods.

I've only seen a handfull with my own eyes, all had rear headrests. May have been a late addition maybe?
