Default I'm considering replacing piston rings...

the intake and exhaust manifolds are off, the timing belt and head are off.

should I have a go at the rings and honing the bores while I'm here?

the pistons can be removed by simply removing the sump with the engine still in the car, right?

    cheers for the help!

    don't know how many kms.

odo read 640,000kms, but didn't move, and I don't believe it anyway.

interior is pretty neat, only one tear on the drivers seat, so I'd be inclined to think its actually done around 300,000kms.

see, I have to clean the block-head mating surface, and I'm not really sure how to do this without getting crap in the bores!

plus, while the pistons are out I can clean all the carbon and crap off of them

it'll take like half a day to get the pistons out, I figure why not spend the extra $100 and replace the rings while the engine is in pieces.

I'd be inclined to leave it.

Otherwise I'd be pulling the engine out and going all out with the rebuild. Which is way too costly.

I wouldn't even bother unless the engine is dead. Do you have good compression in all cylinders?

I didn't do a compression test before pulling it apart xD

I knew there was something I was meant to do! lol
