hey i know a fair bit about cars but i was wondering wot i would need & how to do a cold air intake on my vl commy
cheers, garth![]()
This has been covered a few times, you can fashion your own as I and many others have done. I'm not aware of any commercial solutions for 6 cyl VL's in the cold air department but hey what do I know, I hate paying for anything![]()

what i did is cut a hole in the panel with a holesaw get a rubber 90 degree bend a nd a small length of piping and put the pipe through the hole with the rubber elbow underneath and hold it up woth a hose clamp.....got some subber strip the clean up the hole and pipe......it's still a work in progress, but it does the job so far......
someone posted a pic on here of what not to do, ducted a feed straight to the lower part of the front bumper - great induction but if road dirt doesnt plug up the air filter first the slightest bit of water will screw your engine.
just be careful where the pick up is.
thanxs yeh im gettin a walky front bar & might put it comin out of one of the side holes.
I think your talking about my system, and while that was the jist of it, there was quite a bit more to it than that in order to avoid debris and water. It's important to design these things right, otherwise as you say *boom!*Originally Posted by vlv8vic

so with a walky front for example. and the air intake on the left. thats the cars left. what would you do to make it not go "boom"
Half a carton and still going!!! Now thats Economy
nah it wasnt yours jetspin i cant remember the guys name i dont think he posted after a couple of us commented on the setup. had a big hole hacked into the bumper, just to the side of the grille then a pipe straight from the hole with a few kilos of silastic holding it in the original airbox. looked nasty - and i dare say had a fair bit of 'boom' factor....
dumped6 it was..
thanks bex. oh my 100th post. hooray to me. still only a fraction of some of you guys though!!
i dont see that it will be a problem... it use to be just pointing to the ground before i did this, hasnt been on a wet weather drive yet tho

you's two are the only people that have said any thing bad about it... if it looks like it will be trouble ill just cut the pipe back thro a pod on
pluss you see vr/s with cai out the front of the holes in the front bars an they hav no trouble if any thing ive heard they pick up rocks an you have to clean out your air box every so ofter.... it aint like id be driving thru any rivers
i know of a vl with a my set up on a walky bar with out a filter and that is still driving around fineOriginally Posted by VLACS
apart from the mechanicals of it .... aestheitcally why not duct it straight behind the grill which is already there?
because its too big and hard to bend and fit behind the grille, its only povo ag pipe from mitre 10 and it dont bend verry good and instead of it handing on the ground i thought id be different and put it thru the bumper
you should do what more efficient. im gonna go to the grill from beneath the air box. is a k and n panel filter all the same size. do i have to go in and measure them to find one what fits in my air box
Half a carton and still going!!! Now thats Economy
Mine goes from airbox to bumper grille via 75 mm pvc pipe, so far no probs rain or otherwise. If its anything like the stock filters the panel size/model should be on the box.
they may work and you may never have any problems. im just working off the theory of a couple of engine casualties round here (vic) caused by water in some even less agressive intakes.
(got a mate who stuck a pod filter between the bumper and the wheel on his skyline. sounded great but gave the car a gut full of water cos it was coming straight off the wheel!)
looks good there
dumpd6, you think you can take a picture of the hole at the front from a bit further back, i want to see the aesthetics of this craftsmanship
i have a K&N panel filter with tubing and works well but thinking of changing. i hear that there are regulation changes in regards to pod filters. my cousin got his VP clubsport professionally supercharged and the mechanic fabricated aluminium tubing down through the guard where the airbox used to be and put a pod filter in the wheel arch and it's all meant to be legal. it should work well for me as i have a grp A front bar which directs cold air to the front wheels to cool the brakes.
someone recon'd that pod filters where illigal, i hope thats a lie
yeh im from NSW, that rule is dumb, why outlaw a pod filer, i honestly dont understand
NA ss inducions cai and K&N series 2 panel all the way![]()
