    Default ***N00b about VL's***HELP***

I'm 16 and a half, soon to be on my P's and am looking to buy a car soon, Ive found this really nice VL Commodore, I love the VL's and its a Manual which i want a manual and Manual Commodores are hard to find, its $2000 O.N.O, heres the Catch, its got a Defect. For Seat Wobbles and Steering wheel. Now i know that Im South Australia that when you get a Defect they not only check what you had to get the defect off for, They check EVVVVVEEEERYTHING, From top to bottom. Being a 1988 Year car, would there be common things i should be worried about being a VL and that they check everything over. Also lag int the engine, Mechanic says that it could be a Injector Clip Loose or Needs a new Fuel Filter, but it still runs. I know for myself that a Fuel Filter is an easy fix, but ive never heard of an injector clip loose?

    Any Help is Appreciated.

    Thank You.

First things first, find out if its a cop defect or regency...

minor defects you just fix and get signed off at a designated police station.. ifs its regency dont bother.. not worth it..

by injector clip he'd mean the plug being loose which is an easy check.. its properly just in need of a decent service..

check around the windscreen and boot seal for rust..

take it for a drive make sure the suspension feels nice and isnt all over the road.. make sure the clutch isnt slipping and that it takes gears smoothly.. make sure the brakes feel good..

if that falls throught iv got a 5speed vl here that i need to sell... looking for just under 2g

Shane, hard to tell without really going and looking at it, with what needs to be fixed. You said it yourself though, they check everything. Suspension, steering. It could end up pretty dear.

Steering wheel and loose seats are a pretty easy fix though, even if you have to replace the seats it's an easy fix.

Lag in the engine? Could be as simple as a tune. Once again, need to really give it a good looking over.

Yeah if he's getting the defect cleared, go for it.

If not, expect that it wont pass the first time, so your up for 2 fee's, and alot of waiting.

The lag thing could just be the airbox piping coming out, i've had the problem on all 3 of the manual VLs i've owned.
If your getting the defect cleared, i wouldn't pa anymore than 1200 for it, as you could end up with a list that is too expensive to worry about, and could just buy a rego'd and running car for that. Although that one does have decent paint, which is rare for VLs nowadays.

i thought it was illegal to sell a defected car in SA unlease its being wreaked

way over priced for a defect car, if its police station then its ok (seat/steer easy)

if its regency then no way, wouldnt even offer 1000, it will be a lot of head feck for nothing really

that is far to much to pay for a defected car.
if he gets the defect lifted then consider it, but it is a vl so when it goes to regency there will be a LIST of other defects that will require attention e.g. illegal tint, to loud, oil leaks, parcel shelf been cut to fit 6x9 speakers, behind back seat been cut for subs, window demisters don't work, lights in dash don't work, cracked seat belt buckles and clips, steering play, rust, etc. etc.
also reading his ad said it has just been fully serviced and maybe a loose clip, why not lift the bonnet and push the clip back on takes 3secs. "nothing else is defectable on the car ", but he is not a regency inspector, they always find something to defect.
a friends vl recently was a bit sluggish and ran on 5cyls - his head was cracked between water galleries and #6, no oil and water mixing.
Nobody wants to play with me

    that is correct.

you can sell it, but you can't transfer or renew the rego.

you will need to leave the numberplates, and rego sticker with him, and you'll have to register it from scratch, which will include a FULL inspection.

you'll basically need new brake pads, all new bushes, new shocks, stock wheels most likely, good condition tyres, and no rust!!!

you'll be up for like $2000 in repairs to get it reregistered!

realistically, a defected car, is probably worth like $500 - $1000.

thats what mine was doing, but it wasn't down on power, it would just run on 5 cylinders for like the first minute after being started from cold, till the cylinder got hot enough to dry the water up

Shane, do you want me to come have a look at the car with you sometime maybe?

that means he technically sold it as a wreck.

it'll most likely never be on the road again lol

If they bought it for that much, they would already have plates to go on.
