Default New to the forums... need a bit of help

    Hi guys

Well as the title says I'm new to the forums. I bought I VL for $500 off a mate and need a little info to fix a few things... only one for roadworthy.

    1. How do I get front LH door trim off... need to fix the outter door handle

    2. Does anyone else have issues with fan speed switch not operating correctly if so how did you fix it?

I think actually that is about it for now... hope you guys respond to my questions.

    Cheers

    Doug

    Hey Doug,

Door trim comes off, get yourself a phillips and a flat screwdriver. Under the arm rest there are two phillips screws. Undo them, Arm rest will fall off.

All the plastic clips pop off with a flat screwdriver and a twist.

The hardest bit is the window winder, it has a circlip behind it holding it on. Basically a C shaped clip that is holding it on. You can get an actual tool for this, but I've found if you push the trim back, and get in there, you can put a small flat screwdriver into the opening and it pops off.

Then once everything is off, go around the door with the flat screwdriver or your hands and you just have to pop out the clips. I usually just put the screwdriver in between the door and the trim, and lever it out. Once you get one clip out it's pretty easy to see the rest.

The fan speed may just be a faulty connection on the switch itself. Could probably repair it, but you could probably pick up a spare from a wreckers as well. If you do this, you will want to match up the tubes to the numbers on the back of the piece. So when you remove your old one, get a torch and find the number on the panel, and then sticky tape and a pen and write what number each tube came from. Otherwise your aircon and everything to do with it won't work the same.

as above and remove the the little black cover where you adjust your mirror or it will break when you try to lift the door trim up and off.
if it is just the fan speed switch you will need to replace it, if you can do it yourself do so we had one done by the car elec the switch alone was $90 + labour

the fan switch has a series of resistors on the back of it that are like lightglobes and gradually wear out, most autoelectricians would have the resistors and know how to fit them, or if it still operates on 1 or 2 speeds, this may be good enough for you
in other words, some electricity is burned up by the resistors to give the lower fan speeds
