Default VL Calais 5L Why so expensive these days?

Just wanting to find out why VL Calais 5L these days are so expensive.
Just had a look on ebay and carsales and the 5L vl calais are dearer then most VN/VP/VR/VS 5litres.
Does anyone know why this is?

    I know the Turbo's fetch a but the V8's?
I am looking at buying 1 stock but may have to explore other options..

perhaps they have all been restored, its not unususl for a VL owner to put $20 000 into doing one up, then to get at best half back when selling

yeh iv seen the ones for around the 10 mark which mostly are either turbos or stroked.

What do you guys think of the 5L Vl calais, running the 308 not the modded 304's.
Are they worth it? like if you put 3grand into the engine would it sound good and go hard compared to getting one with a modded 304.

the vl WAS a 304... just a carby one, thats why they call the vk the last of the big bangers

in terms of the 304 carby vs the 304 efi what had more power stock and then worked?
just trying to work out is it beneficial to go the 304 carby 5l stock then to go the 304 efi either in a vn or up.

pretty sure the carby 304 in the vl had around the 122kw mark and the efi started off at 160 to 165 for a base model vn v8

    wow big difference there.
no wonder i have seen efi 304's on a lot of the calais.
    just had a look then

    VK 5L - 117kW @ 4000rpm
    VL 5L - 122kW @ 4400rpm
    VN 5L - 165kW @ 4400rpm

Im wondering how much work you would have to do to the carby 304 for it to pull good numbers, anyone know.

The VK is called that because it was the last model to race group C
