hey guys, my vl alternator is gone i think, when i start the car the volt meter jumps around 8v to around 12v then the car stalls and has to be jump started again, because the battery is flat.
I have yanked the alternator out, where in melbourne could i sent it to get refurbished, as i am selling the vl and dont want to spend lots on a new one. Also around how much?
I went to the wreckers today and there had 2 alternators but the plug on the back of them (the regulator) was differnt to that on the loom in the vl, so a second hand one with the right plug, or get it refurbished is the options.
usually costs around $150 to have a new regulator fitted and the alternator checked out.
pulled it apart and there seems to be a melted part of the copper wires, is this the "brushes" if so, how do you remove it, so i can put a new one in...
that alternator is completely rooted.
you either have a bosch type or a hitachi type. those are the two types vl 6's come with. you will be far better off getting an alternator from a wreckers, even if it looks old.
you may have to buy a new reg for it if your unlucky but the bosch one is only about $30 and they only take 30 seconds to change once youve got the alt off the car
This is good site to watch.I found it informative as I have been researching a lot lately on such matters such as you talk about.
yeah its the bosche one, and iv seen the regulators for them on ebay for 30 buks, my local wreckers had them but with the wrong plug, i now know that my vl had an adaptor on it to suit the alternator that was in it lol. So they are selling them for $55 is that a good price for a second hand alt?
