i own a n/a VL exectutive and it broke down last night.
earlier on that day i de-greased the bay and soon after while driving it would die completly and my solution to getting it going was blowing into the plug for the air flow meter cause it had water/degreaser in it.
that happened four times until it died all together and wouldnt start what so ever but i noticed it was turning over way too fast and the starter motor was stuffed so i changed it and it made it better cause it would fire but soon after die and also backfiring and blowing petrol through the pod filter.
I checked the spark off the coil lead and its constant and bright but when i check a spark plug lead it is all over the place and the one lead will fire 3 or so times quickly then it pauses then one spark then a pause and over and over, the fuel pump is working and theres no water in the dissy either so im absolutley stumped??? if it has contant spark id say it was the air flow but i dunno? plz help
I'm no guru, but I'd next be spraying some contact cleaner on all the contacts pertaining to the dissy. Are the internal contact points nice and shiny?
Next would be testing the spark plug leads themselves.
Use a cheap continuity tester or a multimeter set on ohms.
If you have neither, check that the behaviour you describe applies to all the leads.
If they haven't been replaced for ages, you might consider putting a new set on.
top off the dissy there is a plug that goes into it, about a inch wide
take the plug off and spray dw40 in that, more then likely full of water
this is the Crank angle sensor, when this stuffs up or gets wet the car will splutter missfire and die![]()

after cleaning engine bay definately CAS and AFM Plugs
full of water very common...
Like Vl berlina 5speed said Contact cleaner or WD40 spray pins and plugs and inside dizzy cup etc Should be fine unless it has stuffed your CAS
goodluck bud
the air flow was stuffed and the axelerator cable was caught on something and was stuck half way open shes all good now thankx
check for water inside dizzy head, supposed to be a sealing gasket which often is missing, might be water round coil
corrosion or water in plug on top of dizzy is common, the plug can be replaced
