    Default Scratched windows

    Hey guys
wanting to tint the windows in my vl but they are badly scratched, especially the drivers side. The outer weathers strip (at least I think that is what it is called, maybe called belt mould) have gone all hard and are not much good with grit in them and are the reason they are scratched, a very common problem. I have looked everywhere for these items, have tryed my local Holden dealer, Recomm, Ebay and seem to have come to a dead end. From what I can gather they don't make them anymore and when they did make them they were about $100 each, too expensive to buy a set of 4 so they were deemed not worth making. Can someone help me with this? Also looking for a drivers side window without scratches (yeah I know what you are saying, good luck with that). Any help or information about these items would be great!

Cheers for that mate, i might have to do that. Did you try to get new weather strips and windows? That would be my prefered option. Surely there are guys out there with show cars that find new windows and weather strips as this is a pretty common problem. Not too sure what they would do.

I know some places do glass polishing,im unsure of how much it would cost though...but its worth a phone call.

A second hand window shouldnt be hard to find U-Pull it here in S.A there was about 10-15 Vls atleast one of them would have a good window.

Glass polishing, never even gave that a thought. I might give some places a call. I'm goin up the street on saturday so i'll let you guys know how i get on. I havent even tried a windscreen place for the rubber yet. Can't believe i haven't even thought of that. I've only tried auto parts recyclers. I'll let you guys know how I go.

Well I went up the street today and spoke to a guy from windscreens O'Brian who are usually pretty good. They also didn't know where to get the rubber strips from. Although I did find out the proper name for them is 'belt mould' and they can supply a brand new drivers side window for $75 plus delivery. Not much good unless I do something about the reason it is scratched. I might just clean the grit out as best I can, try armour all on them and get the new window.

Righto, I think we are talking about the same thing from your description so I uploaded a photo. Went to wreckers to get one (wasn't sure how to they came off and didn't want to wreck my own). There was a vk wreck next to a vl and they are exactly the same. Tried another windscreen place and they couldn't help but they rang rare spares and they said they are dis-continued, vk and vl

lol belt moulds r a *** to get a hold off.. u could pay more for someplace to custom make them?

you might have to get it made in another country even = iahd to get my custom plate for my car from the usa.., looks around in a sydney phone book man, that can be a hot source for aftermarket parts..

    ebay..keep trying..

there not to hard to source, seen new ones on ebay but the prices are ridiculous

im after the 2 front ones as they have little dents on them, dont want a none straight mould

simply just clean the back edge of it with a sponge and tooth brush and it will get most crap off it.
its mostly mud from the years its collected it from the rain

Cheers guys, theres an auto rubber place in melbourne (not sure if I can mention the name as other people have got in trouble for this cos of the sponsors on this site). Anyway i'm going to call them tomorrow. Have been on their site and looks as though you can buy the rubber but you have to some how pull the old rubber off the chrome strip and glue the new rubber on. Will see how that goes but yes think you may be right. Just make do with the best set of old ones you can find.

    Default Dead end again

Talked to a guy from that rubber place and he said it was a miss print on his web site. It said the rubber was from vb-vl but its from vb-vh. He said I still might be able to do it and see how it goes and that I should use stickaflex or liquid nails but it sounds all a bit messy to me so I think I will be doing the best i can with cleaning up mine and giving them a regular dose of armour all to see if they improve. They will have to make new ones one day that day just isn't today.
