Mate of mine has asked me for help with his vl wagon. He can only run it on gas at the moment and not petrol. He's been told the fuel pump has gummed up through lack of use by his mechanic(wanka) imo. i've checked as much by just looking & listening (I can hear it) his so called mechanioc says it could be the low pressure one inside or the high pressure external one not working properly. do VL's have 2 pumps?? Sugestions would be helpfull. Thanks Dave![]()
the 6 cyl models usually have 2 electric pumps, one inside the tank and one under the car near the tank
both eventually wear out, they can be heard whining, the one in the tank can be heard from near the tank
the pump in tank is messy but fairly straight forward to repalce
both pumps are available in several brands, if the outside one shows signs of corrosion its probably old
low pressure in the tank, and high pressure in front of the tank, changing the fuel filter ( in front of the high pressure fuel pump under the car) would be a good start if you can hear the pumps working, also make sure the fuel is not stale.
Nobody wants to play with me
Cheers guys your right, he's got a manual now showing everything. Looks like fun playing with that.
