Default my vl problems pls help?

OK first off i brought my vl a little while back then the starter motor chat itself left it for a bit then finally came up with some money to get it done so i booked it into the local mechanic for a reco starter and general service which cost me $300 all up which i thought wasn't to bad considering they got it towed to the mechanics for me then when i pick it up it starts which is good first kick no worries sounds pretty ruff but i figure maybe just a lap around the block will fix it but once i start driving it it is running like mega shit (sorry for language) i take it home and check the oil the filter fuel filter all this

i work it out that a cylinder or two arn't firing i check the leads and plugs and stuff they are all alright

so i take it back down telling them that the problem must be the injectors being clogged with shit guy tells me is has to send them off to get cleaned and will cost me to do this. i thought injector flush might have been good enough to fix the problem what do you guys think i should do???

also my cd player drains the battery tons is this because of the thick gauge amp wire not being hooked up to anything and it is running off the amp lead or is it something else

    i am a car noob

    thanks for your help guys

start the car and wiggle the CAS (crank angle sensor) plug on top of the dissy
    the plug is standing vertical

push it too one side or the other and hold it
if the car starts to splutters, dies or runs perfect it is the contacts in the cable are broken

this will cause the CAS to no send the spark to a cylinder and hence the misfire on a cylinder

go try it now, will only take a few secs and then we can go from there
its a common prob on vls

CAS and AFM are the 2 major probs for a vl running shit*y.
Also air leaks between AFM(Air Flow Meter) and throttle body check all hose clamps holding air intake piping as well as check all vacuum lines.
clean contacts in dizzy cup and light sand the rotor arm contact

About your cd player check that its hooked up to the ignition and not bypassing it. Does it work with out your ignition on?

check wiring like leroy14 has said
There should be a constant 12Volt wire to remember your settings and radio stations bass treble etc etc (Red)
Accessories wire(Yellow) which is ignition so stereo turns on and off with ignition and
    Earth (Black)
As well as Amp REMOTE wire otherwise your amp will not turn off when ignition is off which will drain your battery.
on amp its the (REM) terminal which is near your power and earth terminals make sure that is wired to your head unit remote wire in loom.

    Dear Cal-a,

I had a very difficult fault with the car running rough for the first 10 minutes of start on a cold engine. The first part of the fault was due to the oxygen sensor.
But this didn't fix the fault. Why? After 4 months, 5 mechanics. It tuned out that the fault lied with the Computer not being reset after the Oxygen sensor was replaced. This must happen & adjusted appropriated. Apparently the technical manual also has a slightly incorrect voltage value.

I had computer replaced & carbon cleaning, spark plugs replaced etc to fix this fault - all of which didn't fix fault. Just mechanics not knowing their stuff.

This is a horrible fault. Can also be emulated with poor electrical contact between the airflow meter (plug/socket) as previously mention, can be easily knocked and have your beloved VL running rough. Beware mechanics that want to burn your $$$$$

    Good advice to GOLD.

ok got it back from the machanic today

now i no barly anything about cars and he said i need a whole new engine as i have done a valve thats all he said i said so what does that mean and he says that i am missfiring the 4th cylinder due to this problem and there is only 50pound of preasure in it as the rest have 150 punds of preasure

tho once i actualy drove it it went just as good as it did before this problem

i am taking tio to a very highly recomended machanic next week to check it as i have heard some dodgy stuff about this guy i just got to work on it

he quoted me $1000 for an engine swap replacing the same rb30 one i have

Done a valve? Did he say dropped a valve or burnt out a valve? Not sure but I think if you have dropped a valve you would know about it, your engine would be making some god awful clunk noises and if you have burnt out a valve it should just require some head work but not entirely sure. Even just head work can be expensive though, a mate of mine got a second hand head crack tested for his vl and it was ok. When he got it shaved cracks showed up on it. Apparently he did this with 3 different heads before he got a good one and cost him a fair bit. Anyone else got any ideas? If ur unsure yes definatly take it to someone else and save your self $1000 and maybe even a third mechanic. I've had a few dodgy ones in the past, one turned out to be a massive pisshead, working on cars pissed. Just keep going untill you find one you are happy with and ask around. The grape vine is a wonderful thing.

dont mind the rest of my bay as i have moved many things and tidyed it up a bit

but the two spot circled in the red are what too look at

the top one is the CAS or crank angle sensor, bassically it tells the engine where the pistons are and tells the computer when to make the spark plug spark

if this is not working well it will tell the engine not to fire on a cylinder or will tell it too late.
    this is missfiring.

mine isnt plugged in but the plug stands vertical

the bottom one is the power transitor, this working in conjuntion with the CAS

    start the car.
    let it idle
wiggle the CAS plug/ wire from left to right
wiggle the wiring loom about 2 inch before the plug
if the car coughs and splutters or stalls this is the prob

go try it, should only take a minute if that

well doing the 26/30 conversion will damage you lots lol.

and 1k for a motor change over buy a mtr and do it your self save $700-$600.with the starter mtr problem i would have changed it myself and saved $200 easily

and sounds like you got your stereo hookd up to direct power not accesories my vs is the same cause of previouse owner so im gona pull the whole stereo out and re-do the whole lot so i know its perfect.
