Hi,
My VL had its rear shock absorbers replaced, but the rear right side of the car body is STILL hanging down 12mm or so lower over the rear right wheel. Causing increased right rear tire wear.
I've had a look underneath the car & can't see anything obvious. Could this be a SPRING problem that has lost some of its tension or could the VL body have become slightly twisted??????
What should I be looking for?
ALSO
What are replacement springs worth AND what is the value of a pair opf rear MONROE GT Gas Shocks?
Thx.
Ewan
did you do it yourself?
did you replace both the top and bottom spring mount rubbers? ie put them back in
are they correctly seated?
these are about a cm or so think, they keep the spring central in the control arms,

Thanks for replies folks.
I reported the difference in rear height to my local motor mechanic. He actually found that the right rear shock absorber has faulty, i.e. taking about twice as long to regain it's length after a forced hand push-down after removing the shocks.
Still... after these were replaced there is still the same rear body height difference.
USER: 'VL_5SPEED' you mention that this is a VL thing - really!
If true I would be interested in knowing the difference in height other VL owners have between the right rear & left rear wheel arches.
To compensate for any difference in tyre pressure I measure with 'tape measure' from:
the bottom of the hubcap to the top of the wheel arch - on each of the rear tyre/wheel arches.
I get about 53.2cm on the rear right AND about 54.4cm on the rear left. Difference of about 12-13mm.
If this is normal for the VL I'll let the issue go. If NOT please tell me & I'll take the car back to the mechanic. I don't want more tyre wear & expense.
I look forward to further replies if some you can measure your cars for me. Thanks to for the replies so far.
BTW the rear spring rubbers look okay. Thanks.
Cheers
Ewan

Don't think its just a VL thing, my VR did the same thing when I got my springs compressed, fixed it by not using compressed springs and buying decent ones, i.e king springs, dobi sport, lovells
my guess would be the fuel tank as it sits more to the driver side.......
haha take the tank out and remessure
try swapping the springs over left to right may make a difference may not. also it can happen from having worn bush's, even bush's in the front believe it or not, my boss has a vh sle and his did the same thing he replaced some of the bush's in the front of the car and it made the whole thing straighten out, ill ask him tomorrow what ones he replaced he did tell me but i forget.
my car is slanted aswell,
measured from guard edge to the top of rim edge
this is with no fuel tank in the car aswel
kingsprings - munroe sensatrac shockers - no adjustable panhard
left 112mm
right 102mm

Thanks all for very useful suggestions.
Thinking about the age of the vehicle, maybe the suggestion of putting in an extra rubber coil ring on the lower side might be the cheapest option if this both brings up the height on that side & PREVENTS further tyre wear.
For the folks that had/have this problem; Did you notice extra tyre wear on the lower side?
Yes this car is driven most of the time with just the one person, so maybe coil compressed on right rear for that reason, though I'm not a heavy person.
Swapping the left & right coil springs is a good idea. If its the springs then swapping should prove the point I guess - I'll suggest this to the mechanic.
For Reference; There's about a 5mm height difference between the front left & right - not much to be bothered about.
I probably don't want to sink too much $$$ on the vehicle now - given the age.
So what is a VL Berlina worth these days?
I'll see how I go & report back.
Cheers
Ewan

maybe a lonely fatty once owned it. also do you have a spare wheel in the boot? where it should be, on the left.
and "seans vl calais" mentioned front bushes, which also makes sense.
Nobody wants to play with me
how can the back wheels turn, they're solidly mounted to each other via the diff. unlike IRS cars where you have squat.
bushes wear out and the mounts get sloppy.
