Regular VL auto box, you all know what's what.
When it shifts from 1st -> 2nd the transmission makes a violent crunching noise, the whole car shakes and as a layman I say that it seems as though two gears are grinding across each other / not engaging properly.
When it happens I get off the gas, the noises go away and it drops into 2nd normally and I am able to continue driving.
It is the worst when the trans is cold and seems to mostly go away when warm but still occasionally occurs. It appears during normal/hard acceleration but if I baby the throttle it will shift with a jerk but not make any grinding noises.
I suspect the transmission copped a fair bit of abuse from the previous owner however I bought the car with the intention of using it as spares only, but I subsequently decided to drive it around until something broke, which is probably gonna be the trans.
I changed the trans fluid when I decided to resurrect the car about 5 months ago and have only done about 4,000km since.
It's as if society expects me to act like a cockmongler when I'm driving the Commodore. People always look at me weird when I go the speed limit, or indicate for more than 2.5 clicks or accelerate moderately off the lights... wtf
from gregory's "rough on up shift"
faulty vacum diaphragm
engine tune not to specification
incorrect or contaminated trans fluid
also could it be tailshaft bearing? or when you changed the fluid did you torque the front and rear bands?
Nobody wants to play with me
you could try for a free diagnosis from an auto trans specialist
its jatco and not traumatic, I assume?
"is my vl transmission about to sh*t itself?"
the answer to this question is always, always a yes...
