This is my "daily" but has somehow ended up the most impractical daily driver ever.
Picked it up with 169 000km stock, very well looked after.
was allright for a while then copped interceptors lovells springs front and back and new shocks front and back, 2.5 exhaust and extractors also threw a lsd in the ass end for some fun.
At this point it looked good but sounded terrible and was also slow as all hell.
stayed like that for around 1.5 years in that time i managed to collect the parts to throw a rebuilt t3 turbo, turbo manifolds, 3" dump and exhaust, intercooler and injectors - thats much more fun! ran on 8psi for 10 or so months, killed two autos then i cracked it, no more autos
while it was off the road the standard turbo started too look boring, picked up a t04 garrett from ebay, also fitted a turbosmart 38mm gate screamer, mild wade cam ported head... auto was still stuffed and turned out the turbo was too...so the car was off the road for a while
Picked up a mx7 manual from a bt1 new heavy duty clutch, matching blue manual surround and everything else needed all factory turbo parts, which fixed the transmission problem
Having cracked the shits with the T04 decided to bite the bullet, garrett gt35/40. .50 compressor and got a .85 external turbine, perfect!
Fitted it up to my standard manifold with a 10mm spacer plate, and weld up a dump pipe, went well on 7psi 183rwkw in fact although the injectors had maxed out. in that time also installed surge tank and two standard turbo pumps
Solution to this was to pick up some skyline gtr 440cc units and a Haltech e6x, while i was at it a Jd customs plenum was also purchased.
Increased the boost too 15psi and am loving it, yet to see any dyno time so its on a to what i have decided is a "safe tune" untill i can get it too jpc.
1st gear is now wheel spin, 2nd gear is the same story and 3rd gear can be a little intresting depending on the road and number of people in the car. not bad for a standard 190 000km n/a bottem end
Hoping to run 18-20psi and develop around 260-300rwkw.
and also hoping to find a set of turbo hubcaps and maybe a respray
not sure what it would/could run down the 400m but hopefully around 12 something street tyres/fuel etc
let me know what you think.
Also there no holes cut in the body, front and rear bars resprayed new pin stripping and iv kept the interior pretty much og apart from the boost gauge and few small subtle shift lights
the engine is the og one and has never been remove, trying to keep it oringal while still having loads of power and keeping it very drivable, just the amount of fuel it uses makes it not the best for day to day and in city traffic it sucks ass
nice convert man... sleeper looking 2. keep it up would be good to c dyno results now on higher boost.
cheers fellas, im very happy with it something iv always wanted to do since i was about 16... also discovered tonight that ve ss apprently arnt quite as fast as the humble old vl commodore
id imagine it would go 220-250rwkw the way it is now, night a day difference between 7 and 15psi
few more, one of the standard inlet manifold set up and cooler piping i made
Your right on that. VLs have great power to weight. My old fag wag gave it to a vyss with just a high flowed t3 on 7 psi.

got it up on the dyno last thursday, was hitting the limiter at 4500rpm for some godforsaken reason, was seeing just over 210rwkw at around 4500rpm, very very rich around 10.5 afrs on boost, so iv reloaded another tune and leaned it off abit, seems to run great warm but stalls/misses when cold.
picked up quite abit of power, also pulled limiter out 6500rpm.
lit them up at 100km other day coming on to the freeway or so my dog told me, as id never condone that kind of behaviour.
mate how much you recon you hav spent on this project hav you done all the work yourself?
yeah iv built it mu self, owes me about 10k including the purchase of the car.
Nice any more pics??
Love your style mate- you've done things properly, and appear to have kept the budget under control!
I'm sure your car will serve you well for it!
- out of curiosity what head gasket are you running? - i've had some issues with stock gaskets not lovin' 20+psi - but that's with re-used head bolts. (I've blown 3/3 stock head gaskets @ over 20psi - with no sign of detonation, just stretched flame ring..... but again, all have been with re-used bolts, which could be the issue).
Will be keen to see how she goes with some more boost up her![]()
sorry no more pictures really of how it is now...
um head gasket is fine running 15psi few issues with the tune but eh..
no worries head gasket wise plan on running 18-20psi... so hopefully it will hold together iv also reused headbolts, maybe time for some arp screw in studs?
wouldnt have the tune from your ecu on file? love to have a look at it.
managed to get mine running pretty well, lights up 1st 2nd and sometimes 3rd which is a little scray at times.
hoping to get it to jpc soon, but cash is an issue, also the humble vn is for sale! 8k hopefully it sells!
are you still running a n/a bottem end or got that crazy one back in?
Got a tune off luke all is running well making good power on 15psi
also picked up a Gfb boost controller try and wind it up to 17-18psi then get it on the dyno check the afr's.
also picked up 5 turbo hubcaps, rough as but sanded them all back and resprayed them came up mint, very happy...
ill get some pics up soon how its looking.
copped a decfect friday night, after being out at the princess highway, 4 houses from home bov and cold air intake...doesnt have either but oh well, all cleared.
got it up on the dyno too whilst getting my roadie made 229rwkw @ 15psi...little disappointing, was on 19psi but clutch was just slipping and then hitting the limiter.
so its new clutch time, going to go for something like a wade 818 or slightly larger and maybe some head studs bigger fuel pumps and injectors have a decent crack at 300rwkw also got a .70 compressor housing i could try... but will see, likely it will also be getting walbro 500hp intank pump to feed the surge thank too from the vn.
but will see, was going very well friday night on 19psi decent pace on it, even with 4 blokes and a full esky in it...good times.
rock on cracker
bit of an update...
over manuals
so now got a yerravally 3speed trimatic behind it, full manual, 3500 convertor, one piece tail shaft and a b&m shifter.
also now running a wade 1140c and suited springs.
diff is now running billet 31 spline axels, and a full spool.
front end has been rebuilt, new bushes etc
same for the rear, upper and lower trailing arms being boxed and an adjustable panhard rod fitted.
few other odds and sods.
got a set of slicks, done the hubbies mx grey
bosch 040,
msd 6AL,
msd blaster coil 2,
ice leads
aeromotive fuel reg,
alloy radiator,
14mm fuel rail
and after some 1000cc injectors and another 040, so i can run e85 still yet too get it tuned up...aiming for a 10 and 300rwkw plus
pics....
and the daily picked it up about 4 months ago...6speed, threw 4-1 pacies, exhaust, roller rockers, gts inlet tube and a mafless went 234rwkw
does the job
