nice score, good looking L
i can c this thing being turbo'd :P
great buy, very neat, man or auto?
being a 5 speed i would say manual...
looks fair clean
>insert something funny here<
>insert link to 'my ride' here<
yeahhhh manual.
pretty happy with it, but the gearbox is fu**ed
need to find somewhere that will recondition it
My gearbox was f***ed when i bought mine, i had asecond hand one put it, 400 for the box and about 400 for the wreckers to install it. If you have a good idea on everything put it in yourself
yeahhh Idk what happened, one day it just started clunking when changing gear and making a weird whirring noise when it's in neutral and the clutch is out?
Yeahhh I'll be taking it out soon, think i'll get it reconditioned though rather than getting a second hand one from a wrecker
Mine makes that sort of whirling noise if you find out what it is let me know please mate, my old 5 speed when i bought mine when you put it in 5th, it would literally pop out, i tried it on the test drive because i didnt believe him and sure enough it did then i lost reverse lol
heaps of stone chips around the place and I'd rather a nice light blue over silver one day![]()
So, I've been doing some photoshopping, seeing what my car will eventually look like in a nice blue over silver. I'm definitely not the greatest photoshopper, but you get the idea!
Thoughts?

very clean mate, the paint looks so nice in the photos, keep the red mate, you don't see many factory red vl's going round.
sits pretty nice too, killer first car bud.
I was thinking about it before, what might be better is just to fix up the dings and rust, then get it resprayed the same red again, just all fresh again..
much cheaper to do this too!
Just noticed, whats the go with your front bar man?
it's all broken as you can see,
once I get some money coming in and it's all running sweet I'll buy a whole new bumper set
u can get them on ebay, come from up here in Qld well just up the road from me :P...
Front Centre is $70
or Whole Bumper + Trims and side guards $140
yeah I've had a look, they seem pretty good..
I'm pretty good at eBay window shopping.
Need to get my gearbox sorted first, dad reckons it's better to spend the extra money and get it reconditioned than buy a used one..
He's going halves with me though, so that's roughly $250 from me, seen them on eBay for $500 so it's all good!
My problem is that I'm good at spending the money, I just have no way of making it at the moment!
Mate I know your pain hahaha....
Very clean VL here, I'm also a fan of the factory red here, looks ace! Awesome first car.
Nice pick up (being 5SPD as well), really want to do a manual conversion on mine now now haha... It'll come with time :P
Look forward to seeing what else you do with her mate
Do it, i only got a s/h one and im a bit sceptical as to how long that will last to. And when your on your p's man that second hand gearbox will break fairly quickly, ill almost gaurentee itIf it's only a small amount for the reco i'd do it. Problem i had it was 1700 to recondition a box cause mine was stuffed or it was only like 450 for a second hand with 6 months warrenty. So i could go through 3 gearboxes instead of that one lol
yeah, but I'm thinking that it would be good to get a working condition box for cheap now which will last a few months or a year or something, by which time I will have a job and some money saved up to buy a reco'd one...
Problem is knowing who to buy the s/h box from and knowing what condition it will ACTUALLY be in..
Well today is a great day for me!
Was just talking to my Dad and he said that he'd front the $600 for the gearbox now and as soon as I get a job I have to pay him back half. I think I'll talk him into letting me pay him back the full amount as I feel I would owe it and it would be much better for me, as stupid as that may sound to you.
But anyway, RECONDITIONED GEARBOX, HERE I COME!
Nice one man! Let us know how it goes for you. I reckon paying back full is a nice gesture, and I would probably do the same.
Enjoy![]()
yea i would too.. the whining sounds like the thrust bearing on your clutch. if you put the clutch in does it go away? if so thats it. as for jumping out of gear my guess is synchros. definate recond needed. goodluck and a great first VL
nice first car man! Looks great! I'd keep it red.
