vl walkinshaw replica project

hey people, (23/5/12 CAR HAS BEEN COMPLETED AND ON THE ROAD)
just a quick post of the replica vl walkinshaw i am building(full start to finish build pictures and updates in the thread)
i have had vls before which have been sold with regret,i have all ways loved the looked of the vl walkinshaw best shape to date i reckon(was way ahead of its time)
i now have 3 cars and was driving past a car yard when i seen this vl for $1400 with 3months rego, couldn't go past it,so thrashed it until the rego ran out and gave my vt clubby a rest,had every thing a vl does, including the rust lol.
also had 17inch mags,5speed manual,good old rb30 and neat as trim(which has now all been sold)
so thought i would do a search on ebay to sus out what i could do to it and found a walkinshaw body kit for $1500!!! so the plan is to make it a replica.
then the compulsive buying begun all brand new: full badge/sticker kit/tail lights/boot mould/light moulds/garnish/door and window belts/mirror's/door handles/wiper arms/front window moulds/boot rubber/solex locks/Arial/vl Calais dash cluster and scored a complete vl series 2 "blue" Calais interior fairly cheap.
i also brought a complete running vn Calais for $1000 i kept the engine and suspension and sold the rest of it for $1200.
i have had the rust repaired and a complete "professional" respray in panorama silver(2b053 for those that want to know the paint code)
has now got a vl v8 disc diff and a complete vn v8 front end and also the vn v8 engine which was fully rebuild,bored 30tho new pistons,bearings, timing chain, brand new injectors,oil pump,heads where shaved with a new cam and lifters.valve guides, and a recondition t5 v8 gearbox which i got of my mate fairly cheap,
then had the complete front end rebuilt-shocks, control arms,sway bar,tie rod ends,discs,brakes,rubbers you name it they were replaced(my old man is an x mechanic so labor cost me nothing).
the body kit was a pain in the ass to fit,it was one of the eBay specials me and my brother in-law had to ex-stand the side skirts and make new brackets for the door trims that was a task and a half!(at least 4 cases of beer and 4 weekends)
i have subs,dvd player,screen,auto meter gauges,sport steering wheel,genuine walkinshaw wheels all ready to go on,
i got a walkinshaw build badge of 423,
over all has been a great build with a lot of new things learnt,the car would owe me about $10,000 including purchasing it.

i hope you wound the odo back to match what's currently on the vl.

yea once i posted it i thought i could of spaced it out abit cbf now lol.
should have pictures of the car painted and all newbies fitted in 3weeks if all goes well,and of course it was previously at "130k" !!!.

yea the kits don't set you back much these days though there is a few hours work involved in remaking new brackets etc,
but its well worth it don't see them getting as round as much as they should be!!

Sounds like a good project mate, but unless you want it stolen i would change the solex locks!! they are very easy to get into.

all good has an immobilizer and a couple of kill switches

Ahh good good Its just with the solex locks all ya need is a pair of pilers and ya in :S

yea i know there only for the look.
most old commodore locks can be open with a coat hanger and a good flatty lol.

if ya get a brand new set of locks go for the nice brand.....there really good had a few sets on my cars and never broken into once

if ppl wanna get in they will... rear quarter window...your in.. i have locked my keys in the car b4 i had central and i was in, in about 5 mins took me(under the weather seal), locks only keep honest ppl out.

yea i have already got the locks which are solex.
guys if they want cars these days they just tow them away lol,
i didn't want tacky old locks so went for the solex,which are made by the company nice also.
i know there easy to get into most locks are,cheers.

its actually going to be turbo'd mate,though i have been told by tonnes of people to put a liter in it lol ill see how i go.

and btw wish you where in Sydney i would swap you my dolce's of my vt for your vt rims if you where keen.

hey haven't been on for awhile,the car should be going into the booth tomorrow so hopefully will have more pictures on the weekend, i have some of the things i have brought i will post up so people don't think i'm talking sh!t like some people do on the forum lol.
have brought every thing i need for it,i'm just putting series 2 blue trim in it for the time being and getting it regersted ,
then it will be time to do some thing with the donk,turbo or injected 5litre not sure yet still saving some cash any thing to do with cars drains ya pocket i will keep yous posted....
