Ohh and also, I picked up these goodies from my local wreckers.
I was pretty lucky to get them as they were about to crush the last VL, It was a calais too.
I picked up a calais dash, The window moulds, The chrome gutters and the center console attachments.
I also got a black center garnish, And all the switches (air-con wipers ect..), and some cables and air-con hoses.
(I forgot to add them to the flicks.)
Other pages have more updates!

looks like you picked yourself a very tidy VL mate
being a 17 y/o, I'd expect your budget wouldn't be huge, and P platers can't really do any performance mods, so I guess you'd be mainly looking at some cosmetics
of course a set of wheels would be the first thing I'd be looking at. No need to buy new wheels, have a look on Ebay for a good second hand set with tyres. Carpet looks a bit worn, you can pick up new carpet fairly cheap on Ebay as well.
Have a look for rust under the back windscreen and boot seal. Very common for rust in these areas, if you get to it early, it can save you a lot of work down the track. Also the front screens are bad for it, check behind the passenger side kick panel for water stains on the ECU. If the ECU gets wet they can die.
You could also maybe get a set of headers/extractors. Technically it's a performance upgrade, but I think most get away with it.
Otherwise, just give it a good cleanup and detail, including engine bay. It's amazing the difference a good detail can make to the car
Good cut and polish on the paint followed by wax will bring it up looking new. Find a tacho dash instead of the clock. Has the drivers door been torn back at some stage? as it looks like the stopper mount has been re welded, maybe give it a quick coat of paint/ tidy up. Other then whats listed above I've got nothing else to add, im sure others will. Have fun with it.
Thanks alot man,
Yeah before i picked it up i did abit of research, and yeah i found out That those spots are notorious for rust, But the boot seems fine. As for the windscreen there is a fair amount, I am going to get rid of it ASAP as it just looks like surface rust. (hopefully) And I'll check out that ECU man, Thanks for telling me about that.
As for the wheels, I'd love to get my hands on some! I was thinking of getting a set of clean silver interceptors, as that would be the cheapest. And alot of VL's seem to have them and it suits them.
And the carpet inside has just been replaced, It just has a shadow in the picture which makes it look crappy. But thanks for the suggestion!
And yep! i've done abit of a cut & polish but im sure a good scrub will do wonders!
Thanks alot for the comment & suggestions man!
Yes man,
The door has been re welded, the person before me did a ghetto looking weild on it for his mum (As it was an old ladys before mine)
It looks terrible and as you can see in the photo has surface rust, I will give it a clear coat mate, good idea thanks!
As for the tacho add-on, Just today i bought myself a VL Calais dash for only $40!! which has everything i wanted intalled in it.
Thanks for checking it out and leaving feedback bud!
Thanks for all these comments guys!![]()

clean first car mate, much bettter then my first *cough* XF Falcon *cough* lol
a list for you
take the back window sticker off- FREE
Paint your black stockies silver- $15
Get calais tailights- $100ish
Take out your floor mats, replace them with carpet ones- $20
Buy some Brand new headlights- $120
And lower it!- (roughly) 400. But if i were you i'd just buy second hand
Otherwise it looks like a very nice and straight vl mate. How many k's?
Cheers for the suggestions man!
Yeah i love silver stockies man, Im planning on buying just new or good condition interseptors. Not gonna bother painting these ones, There nasty enough as they are. haha.
And yep! taillights are next, Im looking for tinted ones like the calais ones, but i think im leaning towards berlina ones, Because the calais has the top half tinted silver. (sort of, If you get what i mean) Oh and i also got a black center garnish (which i forgot to tack a photo of when i took the photo of the dash ect..) i think it's of a vk calais. But it fits fine.
When you say get carpet mats do you mean just like mine exept carpet? Because yeah i was thinking that would make it look cleaner and better, It came with them ghetto plastic mats.
What do you mean by new headlights mate? I need new blinkers because there cracked but the lights seem fine.
And i would lovee to get it lowerd, Deffs on the list to do man.
Cheers for the list and suggestions bud!

Get berlina door trims. Unless you want to follow the calais theme and get those (not a fan of VL Calais trims)

Yeah definatly lose the ghetto silver plastic mats. They look horrible, id just get some plan grey ones for it and you can honestly go to kmart and they have them for 10 bucks
i mean buy brand new headlights. Yours are a bit old and faded and oxidezed. I bought a pair for mine and i guarentee you will thank me if you buy them. They really really freshen the whole look of the car. I could get a pic if you like.
Edit- im a dumbass

Is the oxidation on the lights inside or outside? If the reflectors inside the lights are still nice and shiny, then you can get the outside of them looking like new with a kit made for the job for SCA, or even do as I used to do with my old EL Fairmont and just buff em up with a fine cutting compound. That will make a difference to how much light they throw too, as well as looking nicer. (I am assuming the lights are plastic, I have no knowledge of VLs lol)
Clean VL Mate, keep her looking nice don't do anything over the top. Keep her clean and keep that classic VL Look Alive !
Oh another thing. Look for a full calais boot carpet. It covers the spare wheel, opposite side and also the back of the tailights. It looks a million times better. But i found them a bit hard to come by
