Figured I'd throw up a thread for my latest car....
....Been on the site since 2006 when I owned a pretty typical, teenager spec VK commy. Have owned Falcons since then but have just recently bought a VL Commodore.
Engine wise its completely stock except for the obvious Pod Filter.
Seems to be running a 2.25-2.5" Exhaust (haven't measured yet) coupled with Pacemaker Headers.
Stock standard automatic transmission (actually a nice change from the last bunch of manual falcons I have owned)
Lowered on King Springs (Not sure on exact heights....if I had to guess I'd say Low Fronts and super low or Makita spec rears)
18" VY SS mags, 235/40 rubber, Pressure packed in Gloss black.
Here are a couple of pics of what it looked like when I bought it:
Anyways, seems a pretty standard thing amongst VL owners to "build up" Calais type mock ups, and I am no different. I love the look of the Calais, and while I don't wanna build a Calais look alike, I do wanna take some aspects of them to "up spec" my SL a little bit.
So, on that note, Mods I have done since buying the car are as follows:
Replaced the cluster with a 6 gauge unit
Replaced the top half dash plastics for ones with all the tabs (well, most of the tabs)
Fitted VK Tail lights (black surrounds) and added the Black Pinstriping (Berlina style)
Fitted a Fibreglass Mock Calais front nose cone and eyelids, with a genuine grill. The fit is no where near what I would call good, but a galloping horse wouldn't notice, and it will do the job until I can get the cash for a genuine one!
So, pics of how it looks as of today (its filthy, haven't gotten around to washing it yet :P ):
Further plans at this stage involve getting all the paint and panel work tidied up (might give a respray a go - Maranello over asteroid), Engine bay tidied up, and a possible down size to 17" rims (ride is ridiculously harsh on 18's)
Cheers for having a look, and feel free to leave any comments or opinions!![]()

Red parkers make you go faster yeah?? Or have I been misinformed
Not a bad start at all but i think you should have a go at putting the old nose cone on before you respray the car. then maybe strip the paint off the rims and paint them in the silver they come in. and then maybe black out the window frames while the car in being resprayed if you like the look.
How many k's were on it when you got it and how much did it cost? Looks really nice mate, loving the black rims, very mean looking and it sits perfectly.
I won't be putting the stock nose cone back on (its a little too beaten up for that). If anything it will have a proper calais front on it before a respray attempt.
I quite like the black wheels (they were like it when I bought it), but its not the sort of thing I would do to rims myself (I prefer silver). These will stay black, but I will look into getting either a set of 17" VT (I think) SS rims (5 spoke with the little half spoke between each rim), or a set of the CV8 type mags
These ones:
Was thinking about the black window surrounds (berlina style), but was looking at a mates berlina the other day and I think I actually prefer the colour coded ones.....dunno yet, gonna have to have a play around in photoshop I think.
Can't be sure of original k's because the ODO had stopped on it. It was stopped at 250,000 so more than that is my guess.
I paid $1400 for it, which is probably top dollar for what it is. But it came with 2 months rego, and was available when I had the cash so I bought it (bought it the same day I sold my last falcon :P )

looks mad the paint will look new with kitten cut and polish by hand i had 1 worse and it looked 100 times better cheers.
Cheers for that tip. Bonnet, roof, boot and front guards are definately beyond ressurection, but might give it a go on the doors and rear quarters!

$1400 is a really good price for it man. Also I reckon a cut n polish would work mate, sus this car; Restore Faded Paitwork | Professional Car Polishing | Machine Polishing Buffing | T Cut Cars
That little Golf has come up pretty good. I'll have to get a close up of the bonnet, roof and top of the guards on my car though.......Its faded, but its also covered in what looks like stone chips in the paint.
I dunno, will throw up a close up pic when I get the chance. Sides of the car would benefit from a good cut and polish though.
The boot is completely worn through the paint in the middle of the little lip, so that will need to be resprayed either way.

Any updates on this mate?
Not at the moment, haven't had a lot of shifts at work the last few weeks so money has been tight.
Concentrating efforts on getting my BA XR6T back on the road (yeah I know LoL) after blowing the turbo.
I am trying to get rid of the mags at the moment in favour of some 15" VL Calais rims (just looking for a swap with a bit of cash my way). Getting a bit sick of the bone jarring ride LoL
