ok, time for a bit of an update.
it starts but is a bit rough. only 4 or 5 cylinders are firing. and i'm suspecting its the injector after putting in new plugs, leads and dizzy cap. it has spark and injector pulse, but no bang...

I picked up 4 walky door trims cheap. they were cheap because they all had winder holes punched in them and 6" speaker holes.
I dont care thatthey have holes for window windows because I dont have power windows. and If i get poer windows later, then i'll get some better trims.

I have some carpet from some spare door pockets, its not identical to the the carpet on the bottom part of the door but is very close. so I'm going to fill the holes int he trimms with that carpet.

the weather strips were also stuffed but I have some in really good condition from my cars original trims. I've already fixed the weather strips on the back doors and just have to do the fronts now.

I still have not done anything with the top part of the back seat. I am thinking that I should make a seat coer out of the material off the vr clubsport rear seat and fit it over the top of the original vl rear seat. this way the foam fits and no new brackets are needed. does anyone know if this is a good idea?

not sure if the seat idea will work though it sounds good, give it ago.
do you have the chrome roof gutter molds? if so how did you secure them to the walky side part properly mine just sit against it i wanna try fiberglass it in or something.
and i'm really starting to like them wheels, may have to buy some.

I painted the chrome trims and have put one back on.
there is a small gap but i wont bother putting more effort into changing it

I picked up a compressor on special from super cheap, it was $200 with hose and 3 guns.
i spent $800 (think) on paint, primer, thinnners, clear, tack cloths, and greese and wax remover.
then a little more on masks, sand paper and masking tape.

The vs clubby wheels are staying. I like them.

I have a getrag from a vs series 3 5L in the garrage with a clutch, flywheel, tailshaft and extractors.
i need a disk brake diff and some bigger brakes on the front before I can get a 5L.

    I found some nice mats

ta, i hear a sound form the back of the car like a click, but thats all.
since one of the faults is no air con, i can tell that the fault still exists after I make any change by testing to see if the aircon fan works. it still doesnt

Check the codes and how to cancel some of those codes in my sig below..

U should have a priming sound mate.. Pull the top fuel hose off in the engine bay. Put this in an empty bottle and turn your ignition on. It should pump fuel for about 3 seconds. If not u can try giving ur fuel tank and hard smack to c if the pump is playing up. The click will b the relays in the engine bay fuse box. Make sure relays are in good working order too. Check plugs at the fuel pumps as well.

The vl has 2 pumps. The inertia pump inside tank in swirl pot feeds high pressure pump next to fuel tank feeds engine

There is no priming sound. I've got the wiring diagram so will be working back from the pump. I'll give it a bit of a wack, just I case there is some musck from the tank. There is some other sound coming from outside the engine bay which I think is the pump, its not the priming sound, but kinda like a pop sound...

I've taken the fuel pump out and put 12 v across it. Nothing.
Not a sound. My guess is that its got a short or is seized.
I'll see if i can get it replaced over the weekend.

    well it was seized.
I've pulled it apard, loosened it up and it spins when a current is applied. now to see if i can get it back together....
chances are that i'll still be sourcing a new one over the weekend

well I got it back together but i dont trust it. I can hear it prime now, but it just doesn't sound the same.
we've got some friends over today so there is no chance of getting out to get a new one.

so a new pump is $170 from the local auto parts stores, and $50 from ebay... and they wonder why retail is dying. so no new fuel pump today.
on another note I tried fitting a small gas strut to hold up the bootlid. its the same as a vy boot lid strut.

I attached it between a hole already in the metal that extends from the rear wheel arch and a hole that i drilled in the arm that holds the boot lid. it was perfect until i noticed that it lefted the corner of the boot lid when it was closed.

I tried a different existing hole on the structure above the wheel arch and the boot lid arm on the passenger side. this was even worse when i closed th elid.
it bent the arm so that the lid sat an inch higher and an inch further from the windscreen on the front passenger side coner. so now the strut is off again and I have straightened the arm again.

now i'm a little upset that the boot lid still has no strut holding it up. sad face.

The 5L arrives on Monday along with the k frame and all accessories.
Inc cluster. Now its time to rip out the 6 and paint the bay silver.
the engine is from a VP with 170,000 on the clock.

Oh and why do my posts regularly require approval from a mod?

you going to try install the cluster as well?
and no idea about the approval thing, might be because you haven't had many threads.
