Ooooh yeah. Common alright. I've fixed every one of those things at least once myself

My statesman had a broken door lock, leaking seals, broken window, oil leak from steering, oil leak from transmission, two broken speakers, broken head unit, etc etc.

Believe me, that's a short list for you

Ahh, here we go. I just found the list of parts I replaced on my first VP Executive:

    2x rear disc rotors
    power steering rack
    reco power steering pump
    front swaybar link pin rubbers
    rear swaybar link pin rubbers
    auto trans fluid and filter
    LHS rocker cover gasket
    oil pressure switch
    tailshaft centre bearing
rear upper control arms, box type
    inhibutor switch
    windscreen washers
    heater fan switch
    brake lights
    trans mount
    rear muffler
    rear trailing arm lower bushes
    entire hub-to-hub diff
    console lights

and that's only the stuff I kept receipts for

nah, you'll be fine Once you've got it roadworthy, you can pretty much ignore most of the problems the old girls give you. Just service them regularly, drive them easy, and they'll last you a long time

... unless of course you're a picky bastard like me, in which case you'll be pulling the whole thing apart every other week to fix things like blocked heater cores.

hell my first had a few things wrong with it.
It was taken for a quote for roadworthy and was written of on that quote, $3500.
    windscreen
    tyres
    ball joint boots
    1 tierod end
    sump gasket leak
    trans rear seal
    bearing plates
    bent bonnet hinge bracket
    sagging roof
    front brake pads
    some rear end rubbers
    sway bar links
    shagged steering wheel.

done all the work my self and done extra and the parts cost the same as quoted withh extra done.

wow, thats a huge quote good work doing it all yourself. i guess i got of lucky,

hopefully i have fixed the water leak in the boot, the newer lights bolts werent tightened so i did that and am goin to run a bead of silicone around the top, see how it goes
have fixed the rear speaker, the leak from the engine remains a mystery as it has not been dropping anything since.... who knows haha!
and the horn is working slightly better, no idea why....

lol Morton, after reading ur list of problems then looking at ur plates all i read was AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!

hahah, my bros VN has probs too:

    Rear door seals fell out,
    scrubs tires like a mofo
needs new rotors, pads were just done
power steering leaks like a tap on its way to bunnings
at the moment the steering is farked, its allover the place and UN-DRIVEABLE (fixing soon)
tailshaft is on its way out
    trans slips and isnt responsive
welshplug went, but he never uses rad fluid so its clogged up (FIXED)
all the gauges stick, revs, speedo, fuel, temp... all of em.
the torque converter (i swear) really starts makin noise up a certain hill
    air con broken
fans dont work until the 3rd notch (nothing, nothing, eyebrows are gone)
    blows smoke now and then
    motor uses oil
its got a toyota badge, HUGE problem
exhaust actually fell out at the cat converter, sounded like a tank. Fixed it and held it there with speaker wire (still holding!)
only one low beam light works
    has a second toyota badge
Runs like pig shit, steering is floaty when it works, brakes suck and the interior is ruined.

    Mind you,

Its still using oil a year old (looks like tarmac), spark plugs are just as old, air filter is over 2-3 years old, never had rad fluid, trans hasnt been serviced in years, at one point didnt have power steering fluid for ages, interior is always full of rubbish ect ect.

so yea, they can have their problems.
