got a problem with my vn 5lt - when driving along motor just cuts out wont start for up to 20 mins unless i spray sum avaitation fuel up the airintake - have replaced fuel pump, filter oxy censer and in jectors are new can happen when motor is cold or hot - anyone got any ideas
could be a faulty ignition module or wiring as the ecu takes pulses from that to tell it when to fire injectors.
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong

the ecu is only new also
My VN berlina wagon 5L had 2 pumps, one inside tank, one outside. Not sure about sedan though.
yeh they both been replaced
ok replaced the ignition module and still no go
If it wont start again for 20 minutes, could very well be the crank angle sensor. This is what happened in my car. Easiest way to confirm is to carry a bottle of cool water with you in the car. Next time it stalls, make sure it wont start. Pop the hood, and poor the cool water over the CAS (Crank angle sensor). Its located behind the harmonic balancer. You will see the wires come out from behind.
If it starts up after wetting it a bit and cooling it down, Theres your problem.
I got mine replaced for $150 i think? or was it $130? Either way the part is ~$80-90 from holden, and to change it the belt and balancer has to come off.
its V8 so doesnt have the CAS behind the balancer.does the fuel pump still prime when it wont start

Totally skipped over that first bit of the post.....
....damn skim reading.
yes you can hear the fuel pumps purring away when its doing it
You sure it's fuel? Might be time to go back to basics and check for spark.
What's with the av gas?Does that make it go again straight away, or you still have to wait?
i spray a bit of avgas up the airintake and it fires up straight away - thats what make me think its a fuel problem
Have never seen one, but someone told me there is gadget you can get which plugs into the injector wiring connector, which flashes an LED light when a signal is getting to the injectors. Apparently cheap, can be found in auto parts joints. Would at least tell you if injectors are firing, but won't tell you if they are getting fuel.
When it cuts out, does it cough and splutter, or just stop. Have you checked for any fault codes?
