Default surges and just stays alive

I was driving around today and the car stalled on me, i didnt even feel it stall, no jolt or nothing. I then started it up again and had to keep my foot on the accelerator when ever i put it in drive cause the revs would drop so low the car would start surging. As soon as i would put it in Park or Neutral the revs would go back up n back to normal. No codes come up.
    Anyone have this problem before?
    Cheers.

Sounds like the IAC valve on the throttle body just needs a clean out. Common problem.

mmmmmmm have you both tried a different dfi i had an issue the same turned out the coils where fine just the dfi was shot best way i found to tell is take the coil pack apart if the dfi is dirty its probably damaged or burnt out from shorting

when they crack there normally fine untill there warm then the cracks are forced apart of cause making it fail i had this happen with my race car it failed in front of around 1000 people

if it stalls with throttle open it sounds like ignition ... DFI or something. If it stalls when you back off it could be IAC. What about really badly blocked injectors or fuel filter?

ok, only does it when im off throttle. 99.99% sure IAC has been checked and is good.
injectors have been professionaly cleaned and got a new fuel filter. next? haha

yep was fine when i loaded her on the trailer was fine when i was inline waiting brought the revs up went to take of and it died there and then i restarted it did it again all up i think that 1\8th run was 36 seconds lol and it ran like a dream the day before until it got warmed up i changed every witch sensor no help left it over night started it it ran fine so i assumed it cleared its self i was wrong i changed the dfi at ran perfect but i decided it was time to punish it i blew the little v6 to pices in my drive way

id try another dfi make sure that its clean if its not that it maybe the same thing that happened to my last race car when i put another engine in it it started to have dead wiring here and there along the harness so i gave that one up bought another

check no fuel is coming out the fuel pressure reg vacuam hose.maybe you both got dodgy ecu's from the wreckers i know someone with 6 from the wreckers with the coolant issue that makes them flood and not run without ya foot on the gas.thats probably why half of them end up at the wreckers cause they arnt running great.DFI units are on ebay for $58 brandnew if you plan to try that.ive allways found the best way to diagnos these things is a laptop and aldl cable so you can see low sensor volts etc you wont get codes for things but they can have verying signals and not trip codes.does it run ok when cold then have problems when it gets warmer.

May not be the IAC valve itself but the port in the throttle body that it sits in. The port gets blocked with crap and won't let air flow in at idle. If you are only 99.99% sure then i'm guessing you had a 'mechanic' look at it rather than yourself ?

i got a reco ECU. thats mickT's 3rd ECU so im doubting its his ECU. yeah i saw that dfi's on ebay, mite look into one of them.
if its gunna stall it will do it when its cold. but the surging starts just as it get warm.

maybe even buy a coolant temp sensor they are cheap enough and as said above make sure the IAC passage is clean

Hey all..just about half hour ago i was just about to jump on the freeway and it started doing it again, so i put my foot down hit around 110km then got off next exit and the car was idling smooth as lol, i dont get it. Yeh this is my third ecu. Ive never look at the DFI, mite have to have a look at it. Im building an ALDL cable to hook it up should give me the answer. Injectors are good, fuel filter is new. It does it when im backing off, could the Iac be getting jammed even though ive cleaned it? Ill check the DFI, so rob drag racer your saying it shouldnt be dirty anything else i should be looking for? Also here and there there's a egg/sulphur smell, dont know if that have anything to do with it that could just be a shot cat.

burn marks also oil and corrosion when you have it fully disassembled hold it up to a light this will aid in finding any major flaws in the dfi wile your at it check under the coils to see if theres any cracks developing its a singe that you will need new coils in the future

id recommend using circuit board cleaner to clean it (dfi) that way you wont short it out you can get it from Tandy dick smiths ect

and as for the cat dose it seem to have good flow still

Ah ok cool. Ill check that out. Yeh its got a good flow, though i think the welding on one end of the cat is cracked and at high revs you can hear an air leak. Thanks for the info
