hey guys, just got a really quick question to ask - what size is the bolt at the base of the distributor? it's time i fixed my.. timing..
much appreciated![]()
It's either 1/2" or 9/16", I'm pretty sure it's 1/2".
It's definitely not 5/16", that is the same as 8mm. If I was at home I could check. It must be 9/16" then.
i thought i used a 14mm from memory

9/16" is actually bigger than 14mm, 14.2875 to be exact. 14mm will sometimes fit a 9/16" head but it will be tight.
the head of the bolt is 9/16", and a short flat dwarf ring spanner is handy. Don't forget you have to bridge 2 wires at the diagnostic connector near the ECU. Hope you have small hands and thin arms.![]()
Take the LH cover off and pull the heater hose up over the lip on the firewall and you will have more room.
Yep, 9/16 or 14mm.
14mm. OP, why didn't you just throw some spanners down there and see what fit?How long could it possibly take? lol

that's because I don't have any, and I was just going to get a cheapy the right size so I can bend it to get to the bolt easier. now my car is broken though![]()
You can get a full blanket of spanners for about $25 from Bunnings when they're on special. Decent ones too. I've hit them with all manner of hammers, and used them to lever stuff, and they don't bendThere's a lot to be said for chinese stuff these days

haha i might have to have a look. i thought they'd cost way more than that! it's kind of hard trying to work on a car with a 20 year old socket set (that is missing the sockets you need), multigrips (worst tool ever), and a shifter
and thanks for the information guys!
