Just go a 2.5" exhaust. I'd reccomend Lukey, most people prefer just the centre muffler and no rear resinator.

If you have a large budget then there are better (dual) options, but not really worth it on a VN/VP V6.

Either way, you're better off with the both imo, you just have to choose the right mufflers, but most people don't want to spend the money on two good quality mufflers. They just want the normal $250 fitted exhaust. It'd generally be much louder though without the centre muffler and just a rear resinator than the opposite way around.

i just bought a system for my VN V6..
it a 2 1/2 inch cat back with a hotdog followed by a straight through muffler with twin dumpies..

it sounds like an 8 .. i love it... but just a bit worried its too loud..

the guy said its just over EPA level and its the closest he can get it to legal...
    cost $250...

Go the Lukey system. Your local Midas will be able to do it for you in about 2 hours or so. That's wat i've got on mine. Sounds okay. Has one muffler and dosen't drone really. Its loud enough for a V6. No matter what exhaust you have, it will never sound like a V8.

Lukey Systems are made thinner and sound more tinny.. Redback are a far better make...
my mate had a Lukey catback system in his st8to.. lated 1 year till it started rattling and the honeycomb type material in the muffler broke appart... he was told that lukeys products are pretty thin...

its up to you tho.. whatever you preffer.. im just telling you all i know.. so u know...

    cheers...

I have advance headers, high flow cat, lukey mandrel bent 2.5" with one straight through middle muffler, with a x-force noise suppressing tip (dual layered, perforated insides) on my VP, there's almost no drone, can only really hear the exhaust with the window down or if you've got your foot down.
Check out my VP right 'ere!

yeah i had a stock exhaust where i removed the resonator and put a 4inch pipe there, drone central, not that loud though. YouTube - VN Commodore Home Made Exhaust

i bought another exhaust to do it the other way around (remove muffler but keep resonator), hoping it would remove the drone. never got around to it though.

the best sounding exhaust i've heard so far on a buick is the stock one

Yep, you're probably right there levymetal. Stock system ftw.

I've got a 2.5" single muffler cat back with pacemaker headers. don't like it really... hoping a 2.5" or 3" with no muffler and a turbine in the airstream will solve the problem

With the stock centre muffler it will. With the right centre muffler it can sound good, but as already said you will get some drone. Again though, the amount depends on the muffler choice. With the right muffler/resinator combination you can eradicate drone and have a decent sounding exhaust on the Buick V6 that barks quite nicely with revs. I've never really enjoyed the sound of a Buick over about 4,000rpm though, but up to there they sound quite good for a V6.

I can't hear drone anymore, The reason I beleive this is because when my brother bought his VS 5litre it used to be extremely anoying to me at 100 so much so that we had to drive everywhere at 110 or 90. Anyway I borrowed the car for a few months and drove it alot and I never noticed the drone and infact still haven't ever since and nothing on the car has changed (well I played with the tune) but it wouldn't have changed the exhaust note much. So I think I'm just used to it and maybe just maybe my own car drones like a bitch and I don't know it, maybe I even like it. Anyway that's just an observation about how it doesn't matter

a tune does effect the drone quite a bit and the bark at full revs

I had a set of Pacemaker extractors with a single 2.5" redback exhaust with single straight through muffler and a rear resonator on the VP. It sounded crisp, it didnt have much of a rumble to it, and it didn't drone either

Actually Jason, regarding drone, I have noticed my VN is a HELL of a lot less droney with your memcal in it. I remember driving over from canberra in 06 with stock tune and rear exhaust section unbolted, was terrible. I have no rear section at the moment and it's perfectly fine

    Weird, huh.

yeah cause all the fuel is burning in the engine so it doesnt slam into the still burning charge from the other bank when it merges to much timing and not enough fuel and they go real quite hehe

So i went to the Wreckers today looking for Cat back Systems, the only decent one he had, was 2.5 inch, cat back, only a centre muffler, and the rest is 2.5 straight pipe, no rear muffler or resinator either...would this sound like shit? What do you guys reckon. They were asking $40 for it....

im not trying to make my V6 sound like a V8, and this isnt even my post, i'm just posting similar exhaust questions rather than starting new threads all the time, because there's already enough exhaust related threads out there already. Yes i know, fit a set of pacemakers, but i dont have the budget for this right now, i'm simply looking at 2nd hand cat back exhaust systems at wreckers, and then trying to get an opinion on them here....

2nd hand pacemakers and Y pipe. I picked mine up for $150.

get that 2nd hand cat back you mentioned 2 posts up, it'll do the trick. If you don't like it get a resonator welded in.

Use the stock catalytic convertor, it's more than adequate for the job.
